Changing dates, had to call, told Guest svcs would handle it...weird

In the past, I have been able to book a trip online, and if the dates weren't quite right, I could mess with them a little to get the desired discount and then I could just call in to change the dates to what I want. For example, if I wanted March 2-9 but nothing shows as available with discounts except for March 1-10, I would book March 1-10 and then just call in to change the dates. (So basically all nights still in that range, just fewer nights.

This trip, I did that and called in to change the check to a few days earlier. I was told Guest Svcs would handle it and send me a confirmation within 24 hours. An hour later, I got a new confirmation but for the same dates.

Has something changed in their policy regarding changes?

Yes. They won't let you drop a day unless all days of your new reservation are available before your cancel, for many dates. Exceptions have to go through Guest Services.
 

Darn! I wish I'd known about the changes or I would have made a very different booking choice!

They changed them for me! BUT, now I have two bookings under the same confirmation number. It has the same room reservation twice for the same nights, but one confirmation number. I just got the confirmation email 3 min ago, so maybe they are still working on it? I can't tell if it is still at the same discounted rate we had before. Will have to figure it out. Hmm.

I hope they don't end up deleting my whole reservation! I don't know why I am worried about that, but you never know with glitchy things like this!

Hotel rates and discounts are a day to day thing. So the agent has to make sure if you booked the "fun package" that the rate for that is available on the dates you're changing to. The agent can't give a discount on every day. When we tried to book our December trip using a CM discount, that discount is only available on certain dates and we had to cut a day off our trip because the last days weren't available with a discount and boy did the price jump!
 
Oh, the rate was available. We were reducing days on "family fun...." package. Thankfully, they kept the discounted rate for us with the reduced days so we're good to go!

MDE glitch. It has happened to me several times after GS makes modifications.
 
I just let it be. It might take some time, but it eventually goes back to showing just one reservation.
