This may be a strange question, but with that said I will post it anyway :confused3 Does anyone know how often the bedspreads and blankets are changed at the Beach Club? Has anyone ever asked for all fresh linens?

Good question.... you must have been in a hotel room with an alternate light source before. Yuck! :magnify:

You question sent me to do a Google search, and look what popped up:

The most recent scrutiny of hotel hygiene came in the wake of a murder trial in Iowa.

Reporting on the trial of Donald Piper, who is accused of murdering motel guest Patricia Lange, news staffers at the Des Moines Register took note of presentation of DNA evidence. The jury was informed that the bed spread in the room bore "106 ‘invisible’ stains — 36 of them semen" — stains that were not visible to the unaided eye, but present nevertheless.

A newspaper survey of hotel housekeeping departments on the frequency of bedspread cleaning produced this data: Absent a visible stain, bedspreads are cleaned sometimes only once every three months.

The Register followed up with an editorial noting that germs such as hepatitis A or B aren't visible to the naked eye.

Have a nice day!!!

This topic was talked about at great length
a while back. Not sure if it was before the
DIS change - if so you may not come up with anything.
However, IMHO it's worth your while to
do a DIS search on "bedspread" "sheets", etc.
If it's still here it will be a real eye-opener,
& I'll be greatly surprised if you don't ask
for new linens or at least put the bedspread away
while you're on vacation!

Sleep tight ;)

I have been very disturbed by reports on hotel cleanliness. I no longer lounge on top of the bedspread and I cringe every time I touch a TV remote control.

As a former housekeeper, I know what
gets left behind & undone,
so I wipe all "touchable" surfaces down
with Clorox Wipes before my toddler does.

However a great tip someone posted elswhere is that
as soon as they enter the room they put the
remote into a zip sandwich baggie & it works
right through it. No one has to touch it for
the entire stay!

 Gross!!! I always bring my own pillow, but I don't think I would have room to pack my own bedspread!!! :sad2:

I saw a show about that a few years ago. Now, when we check-in, I request that the bedspread be removed and not put back during the entire stay. I've had to remind them a time or two, but generally they are okay with it. If they don't remove it, I do and put it in the hallway. They have always been very understanding.

Why are people so shocked that they don't wash the bedspread between people? As a child, my mom always said don't lay on the comforter b/c they don't get washed between guests, I thought that was common knowledge.

I can't imagine the mousekeepers cleaning every queen/king size comforter, that would take forever! Diseases don't live on a comforter long enough for you to get sick- if they did then thousands and thousands of people staying in hotels at wdw would be sick everyday. Just pull back the comforter and don't lay on it, its not something to get outraged over. -Stephanie

We just fold the comforter down to the end of the bed and we don't use it. It's not really a big deal {{shrug}}. There are germs everywhere. Thinking about the handrails in the ride queues will give you the willies and make you go out and buy a case of Purell.

Exactly... I know a lot of people ride rides and then eat lunch w/out washing their hands YUCK! :crazy2:

Hotel rooms are nasty anywhere you go.

I feel bad for my poor DH who travels a lot for work. He never gets a good night sleep when he is away because he is afraid of germs.

I never let any of my family sit on the bedspeads in hotels. In fact we never even use them.

I always carry clorox wipes in the diaper bag, and we use them everywhere we can in hotels.

I know germs are "everywhere", but that does not mean I can't do my best to keep them away!

Has anyone ever requested "fresh clean" bedspeads from mousekeeping?

Yep, you're going to get many more germs standing in line than sitting on the bedspread!!! I would even go so far as to say that your countertop at home has more illness spreading germs than you'll get sitting on a bedspread. But, if you are really concerned about it...either fold the spread down, take it off, or cover it up with a sheet you bring from home. Some have even gone so far as to bring all their own bedding from home. I'm much more concerned about those handrails in the que's. That's why we have Purell in our fannypacks.

Yuck, yuck, yuck!! I'd heard this all before, and I'm careful about not laying on the bedspreads, but it still just grosses me out!
I take Clorox spary and spray everything in the room - counters, doorknobs, remote, etc. I don't want to take the risk of getting sick on vacation!

I am more worried about parasites, such as scabies and body lice. Those things could live on a comforter in between guests. It really gives me the willies. Thankfully we live in a part of the world where cleanliness and good hygiene are important social values.

Okay, but now for the next question. How often do they clean the blankets?

I pack antiseptic, disinfectant wipes. Once we reach our hotel, I send DH and DS out to look around while I wipe the entire bathroom, along with the dresser drawers, tables, telephone. I will now add the remote.
