Changing at 7 months without enough points

we plan on changing resorts at 7 months but are 3 points short for the 2015 year for the new potential resort stay. We have full points for 2016. (Trip will be in 2015). Will I have any issues borrowing once I'm in the process? Will having to borrow these 3 points delay me from getting what I want? Just a thought - I read on here somewhere you can buy points... Will online booking give that option?

In order to change you will have to cancel your existing reservation and then start with making the new one. Borrowing happens when you are booking and doesn't slow anything down. By the time you have reached the part to select the points you will have a hold on the room for 20 minutes - plenty of time to say ok to borrowing.

If you wanted to go the route of purchasing the one time points you would need to call in - that cannot be done online.

If the room you're going to book is in high demand, by the time you call at 9:00 it might be gone. What you could do if you prefer not to borrow points and you want the one time use points, is to book online at 8am all nights except the last one, then call MS to purchase the 3 points and add one night to the reservation at 9:00am.
Unfortunately this does not guarantee that the final night will still be available by the time you call, at 7 months, but it will increase your chances.

I dont mind borrowing the points at all since it is only 3 that I will need. How much are the points from MS? Any restrictions on these points? And any restrictions to buying them?

Rather than borrowing, you can purchase up to 24 one time points to complete a trip. Disney charges $15 per point. You can do a purchase only once per use year, e.g., purchase 3 for a trip in this use year and you cannot get anymore for another trip until making a reservation for the next use year. It can only be done at 7 months or less out and currently only by calling MS. You cannot purchase to cover a wait listed reservation. You cannot purchase for a trip using solely the one time use points. You cannot purchase for the purpose of replacing current use year points in a reservation with the one time points.
