Changing an ADR

It looks like my MIL will not be coming with us ()....I have all of my ADRs for 5 people. I don't want to cancel my reservations for 5 and not be able to get a new reservation for 4. Do I just show up with one less person? Do I have to cancel?

What do I do about Askershus, since it's guaranteed on a credit card?

And who is going to watch my kids for DH and I to go to Le Cellier for a date night planned 180 days ago?!?!?!?! I'm just a little angry about this ;)

My understanding is that it's not a big deal if you show up with 1 less person. It becomes a problem when people show up with MORE people due to available table space and fire codes. However, for your Akershus ADR I would call and let them know that you have 4 instead of 5 so you don't get charged.

Are you staying OP? There are "kids clubs" at several of the resorts. There are also babysitting services such as Fairy Godmothers that will come to your hotel.

I had this issue with Le Cellier a couple years back - had ressies for four, but only my dad and I actually went. It was a last minute decision, and we had no issues. I just explained what had happened and they seemed fine with it. :confused3

I'm assuming what Laurin said - showing up with more would be a problem, but fewer not so much. However, had I been able to (with more notice) I would have tried to change my ressie, but I wouldn't chance cancelling and trying to rebook. IF you are able to get a new ressie, then I'd cancel the old. :thumbsup2 Otherwise, I'd keep it!

However, from what I understand, you will need to reschedule Akershus. If you show up under, you will be dinged for the applicable number of no shows.

The others shouldn't be a problem.

While this is true, sometimes they do not charge you the no show fee....they didn't for us last year when we had 6 instead of 8. If they DO charge you the fee they told me it was $10 per person. I would just ask you MIL for the $10 and keep the reservation the way it is, or just pay the $10 yourself. Small price really to keep your plans. As for every other restaurant, we had reserved for 8 and showed up with only 6 due to a cancellation and it was no problem anywhere. :thumbsup2

Disney dining is no different than any other restaurant in this regard. Just use simple math. Tables generally run two-tops, four-tops, and six-rounds, with other configurations being made up as needed. If you have an ADR for one size table, and show up with a number of people that will still fit at that table, there is never a problem. In other words, if you reserve a four, and show up as a three, it is no problem. But if you reserve a six and your group shrinks down to four, while you could get away with showing up smaller, the courteous thing to do is to call ahead so that they do not use up a table for 6 for only 4 people. Same is true if your group gets larger. If you reserve a 2 (as I did a week ago), and your group grows to three (like it just did this morning), you need to call and make arrangements as the romantic table for two in the corner that they were going to give you will not suit your needs if you simply show up as a three. If all the four-tops are taken, you could have a long and uncomfortable wait.
