Changes to my PM's - how and why?

Without speaking for Alex, I would assume that the defined filters change over time. I doubt that the filtering is applied to the data, but rather is applied when the data is presented to the user-interface, so a change to the filters will result to a change to what you see in the user-interface.

Absolutely it fits. When a word is added or removed from the word filter it applies to all messages old and new. What happend was she recieved a PM with a word that was not filtered. The word was added to the filter so when she went back to look it was astrisked out.

Simple :)

So in others words, there is no "list" of words that are acceptable or not, so one doesn't know if they have used one of those words until it disappears - correct? And they change on a continual basis? Sometimes they're okay and sometimes they're not?

I guess that answers my question about requesting clarification so the guidelines can be followed.. They pretty much can't be - if we don't know what they are.. :confused3

Well, not today, anyway! But don't worry, it might be different tomorrow! :rotfl:

Seriously, thank you for the answer, Webperson. :teeth:

Of course there's a list, that's how the filter works.

But we're not going to publish the list.

First- the profanity in it would make your hair curl.

Second- the entries on the list are there because they're not appropriate to use here.

Third- the word filter would make the list look something like : ***** *** ****** ***** *********** *** ****** ********* ******* ******* ***** ********** ******* ********** ***** **** **** ****

Seriously
I think we can all figure out the profanity.

Could C.Ann tell us whether what was cut from her PM was profanity? That wasn't my impression.

Or did a formerly acceptable word suddenly become profane?

I think there is more to the list than just profanity - although I do understand the **************** problem of publishing the list.

Absolutely NO profanity.. Just perfectly innocent information someone felt I could make use of - and that's what I find so mysterious and disturbing..

It would be unusual for "perfectly innocent" information to be in our word filter.

The filter contains profanity. It also contains websites that are unwelcome to be posted on the DIS because they've spammed or advertised repeatedly, or that have been used to ridicule or harass the DISboards or the posters here.

Links to sites containing profanity or personal attacks are not appropriate, just as posting the profanity or attacks here directly would be not appropriate.

C. Ann- If you have a specific question about something that was filtered, you can email it to the webmasters at admin@wdwinfo.com.
