Changes to list of prohibited items - no more toy weapons for pirate night

Does this include the light necklaces that were everywhere at the World last weekend? They're making *bank* off of those things.

Sounds like Christmas lights and similar not the necklaces.

Sounds like the official paperwork says battery operated strings will still be OK, but we will see what happens on the next few sailings I suppose! I have to wonder about light sabers too... sounds like the bubble guns are now gone from the parks too. :(

Edited to add; here is a snippet from an email those sailing are getting about it:

"Please remember that while all Guests are invited to wear costumes for both Pirate Night and this special Star Wars Day at Sea celebration, masks that completely cover a person’s face may only be worn when standing still at character photo locations and must be carried when moving around the ship. We also ask that you choose costumes that are not obstructive or offensive. To avoid any disappointment or delay in the boarding process, please refrain from bringing toys or props that resemble guns, knives or other related implements, as these items will not be allowed onboard."

Just called to check. Battery operated lights are still good.

I think that will be true... still eager to see what happens when people board since we know implementation to start can be spotty. Hopefully there is clear communication at the port! :)

Seasonal /celebratory light bulb strings have been on the prohibited list for at least a little while. That's not a new change today.

I believe the change being referred to was the banning of toy weapons.

The original post is:
Of note is all toy weapons as well as seasonal /celebratory light bulb strings are now prohibited

You are correct that the only change made today is the toy weapon ban, but the OP made it sound as though the light bulb strings were a new prohibition. And for the most part, the responses were discussing the lights, not the toy weapons. The light strings aren't a new addition so I don't know why that was mentioned.

So for Pirate Night, I can't have face paint nor carry a plastic machate?

I guess they aren't going to give out toy swords for Pirate's League makeovers any more either.

I'm glad they're still allowing pirate costumes (and Star Wars costumes). I wonder what's going to happen for Halloween. I read on another site that adults aren't going to be allowed to wear Halloween costumes in the parks.

Ridiculous. Just ridiculous.

You have to go through security and a metal detector just to get on the ship. Why would wearing a Darth Vader mask be an issue while walking around the ship?

So what if you can't see someone's face. You can't see their face when they have their back turned to you either.

New rule: "You may no longer walk in a forward motion and must now walk side to side with your back to the railing whenever walking around the ship so that everyone can see everyone elses face at all times."

I think the masks are more for safety. The ones you buy off the shelf aren't always the best for seeing so they may be worried someone in a darth vadar, storm trooper, or bobba fet mask would hurt themselves.

You may be right, but I don't think so. Are they disallowing costumes for adults in the parks for safety of the one wearing the costume?

Adult costumes use to be banned up until 2013/2014 when people made a stink over it. They relaxed the rules a little bit and now they are going back to the olden days.

The adults in costume rule is more about children not mistaking a regular guest as their favorite character and perhaps going off with them. I also wonder if the no costumes has to do with the fact I have see people dressed in thing similar to the costumes CMs wear (and not just the printed t-shirts) once the costume ban went away. Outside of having CMs display their company ID tag even in costume it was determined that adult guests in costume was a security issue.
