Changes to Haunted Mansion?

There have been a few times recently that my wife and I came out of HM with a distinct, "This part or That part seemed different." vibe. Never really pinned it down.

Glad to see this brought up. I don't remember any new characters in that scene, but I did notice something last fall that I had not noticed before. At the start of the hitchhiking ghost sequence where the host tells you to beware of hitchhiking ghosts and you are looking straight on at the mirror with all three of them.... down at the bottom of that is a portrait of the graveyard/grounds keeper (the trembling one w/ the dog from the beginning of the graveyard sequence). Is that new? Or have I just never noticed it before?
I can’t say the groundskeeper pic has “always” been there, but it’s definitely been there several years at least. I love the Boo to You parade, abs he’s always a highlight for me!

Okay, cool. I'm glad that someone else has idea of about when it showed up. I think I'm just usually looking up at the hitchhiking ghosts instead of down low.

I'm not sure when the picture was put in, but I never noticed it until I did the Marceline to Magic Kingdom tour in November 2019. It's tied in to the group of bust statues that are in the standby queue. Kind of a little murder mystery thing and the picture is the end of it. It's a really neat thing to learn. I won't spoil it for you, but highly recommend the tour where it will probably be explained.

ETA: I hope I'm talking of the same picture. I know it's in that mirror/window at the end just before you turn. The picture is in the very bottom left hand corner. It's not the groundskeeper though, so maybe I'm thinking of a different picture? Hmmm.
Ohhh....interesting! It's been several years since I last read through the bust statue story outside, so I don't remember how that mystery ends. Guess I know what I'm doing next trip. The picture I'm talking about is exactly where you describe it being. I definitely think we are talking about the same thing and I probably just saw it quickly and thought it was the groundskeeper. Thank you!!

There was definitely something different but I truly think the lighting was better. I commented to my husband they changed the lighting. In contrast the seance room was much darker and less distinct than before. So I think they’re playing around with it.
One of the issues I have with the HM is how difficult it is to see things because you come from bright outside sunlight and are in the dark before your eyes really adjust. So I noticed it when things in the graveyard looked clear to me.

When I was there in December both my GF & I felt the whole ride was a lot darker than it had been. We rode it twice on 2 separate days and had the same impression both times.

I last rode it just over a year ago the lighting was the brightest I had seen in some time (especialy in the stretching room). It seems like that aspect just varies from trip to trip

Thanks all for your responses. I've ridden the ride many, many times, but for some reason that graveyard scene looked different to me this time. I do agree that it looked brighter in the graveyard. Maybe that's why it looked different to me.

We rode it last week and for some reason the entire ride just seemed darker (as in illumination).

We rode it in early February, and I commented to my husband that the graveyard scene was different from our last ride in November 2020. I could not put my finger on what exactly, whether it was the addition of ghosts or they were highlighted differently.
