Changes to Free Dining Reservation allowed?

I have a reservation for 4 with free dining. My mom is joining us. She may or may not want to go into the park every day with us. We also have 5 day PH for all four of us. Will Disney let me change the reservation? I'd like to remove her completely and pay as we go for her activities and meals. We arrive 9/24. Also thinking she and I can split meals if the restaurant allows it? Thank you for the expert advice!

You can remove her and add her at check in. However, she will not be able to use Magical Express to get to the resort, as you have to be a resort guest to use it. You also wouldn't be able to book and FP+ for her ahead of time.

In this case I am not sure the savings would be worth the inconvenience. Mom would need tickets if she chose to go into the parks, so there is a cost, and how do you budget if you are day to day, decide on the fly? She has to eat. She needs transportation. She needs a place to stay. Thus all involve money but how much? I would not make a change and just pay attention to your dining credits so they get used.

Since you will be there during free dining then just leave her on the reservation and plan to use her dining credits if she won't be using them. We had someone cancel out on our free dining trip and we kept her tickets and used her dining credits. It saved us lots of money and we have the tickets for a later trip. :)

Thank you everyone for the great responses. My original question has now changed...my dad was just diagnosed with leukemia today. It looks like my mom will not be able to join us after all. Does Disney allow changes based on terrible circumstances? Thanks again.

That is terrible. Sorry to hear.

You should be able to remove her from the reservation with no issues. Once you get within 30 days, I believe there is a $50 fee to change your reservation.

I'm so sorry. Definitely call, they will most likely let your drop your mom with penalty.

This. As long as you make the change before final payment is due (which is 30 days prior to check-in), there will be no penalty to take her off the reservation.

Disney very kindly let me sub in my husband for my mom on the reservation. Thrilled DH can join us- first time in 10 years!
