In case you haven't seen this on the other thread, it looks like Disney/BankOne is changing the redemption of DDRD. Instead of ordering certs or cards (and having to pick where you plan to use them), you will now redeem for a reloadable "Disney Rewards Card." I went to BankOne's site and read the pdf about the program. I've decided to once again type out the highlights for everyone. I suggest you go to the site if you want to read the full doc. Just be careful--because the old one is still out there, too. I can't remember which spot I found which one at, but you should be able to tell once you open the doc. (DDRD and DRC are my abbreviations.)
"Once you've earned at least 20 DDRD, you can call 1-800-436-7999 to request your Disney Rewards Card and have your rewards transferred to your card to use."
"You don't have to order your Card until you're ready to use your rewards, but allow time for it to be mailed. Your DRC will typically arrive within 2-3 weeks from the date you request it."
"Your DRC is not a replacement for your Disney's Visa Card. Do not throw away your Disney's Visa Card when you receive your DRC."
[They're still vague about where and what you can use the card for, but I suspect it's the same as the certs/cards.]
"What can I use my DR for?
DDRD are good for most Disney merchandise, park tickets, hotel nights, food and more at: Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts--including Theme Parks, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Store, Disney catalog, Disneystore.com, Disney Interactive, Disney Magazine and FamilyFun, Disney Movie Club by Mail, Walt Disney Collectors Society, Disney on Ice (merchandise locations only). They can even be used in combination with special offers and discounts."
"DDRD must be transferred to DRC before they can be redeemed."
"DRC need to be activated before they can be used. You must have a valid Disney's Visa Card, you must call Bank One Cardmember Services at 888-205-5922 and follow the procedures required for activation."
"DRC will expire on the expiration date indicated on the front of the DRC and the DDRD on the DRC will be forfeited and become unavailable for redemption after such expiration date."
[I'll be curious to know what this expiration date is.]
"You must accumulate at least twenty (20) DDRD in your Program Rewards Balance in order to request a DRC to redeem your DDRD. You must transfer at least twenty (20) DDRD from your Program Rewards Balance the first time you request a DRC (or, if you are requesting transfer of DDRD from your Program Rewards Balance to (i) a previously issued DRC, or (ii) any additional DRC beyond the first DRC you have received and activiated, all such transfers must be in increments of at least ten (10) or more DDRD).
"It is your responsibility to keep track of the DDRD balance on your DRC, but you can check the balance on your DRC by calling BankOne Cardmember Services at 800-436-7999 or visiting www.bankone.com/disney.
Each Disney's Visa Card account is eligible only for a maximum of two (2) DRC activated for use at any given time.
To request your DRC or to transfer DDRD to an existing DRC, you must call BankOne Cardmember Services at 800-436-7999 or access www.bankone.com/disney and follow applicable instructions. Allow two (2) to three (3) weeks for delivery of the DRC."
"DRC will be mailed to the Cardmember's address of record on the BankOne billing records, unless otherwise authorized by the Cardmember to deliver DRC(s) to a different shipping address."
"You can use your DRC towards the value of Disney products or merchandise, but if the value on your DRC is greater than the value of the item purchased, the remaining balance will remain on the DRC and can be used until the date of expiration on your DRC."
"DRC may not be exchanged for or substituted with other reward certificates, reward cards or DRC regardless of value or expiration date."
"You agree that your are responsible for checking in advance (i) whether a specific retail point of sale location will accept the DRC, (ii) as to the Disney products and merchandise that the DDRD can be redeemed for through use of the DRC, and (iii) as to the return privileges at specific retail point od sale location and for specific products and merchandise."
"With respect to any lost, stolen, or mutilated DRC, please notify BankOne Cardmember Services promptly by calling 800-436-7999. Upon such notice, and subject to Cardmember verification, BankOne shall suspend use of any such lost, stolen, or mutilated DRC and BankOne will provide you with a replacement DRC (any DRC in excess of two (2) during any calendar year shall be subject to payment of a service fee by you and charged to your Disney's Visa Card account) bearing the balance of DDRD on your lost, stolen, or mutilated DRC at the time the DRC was suspended. Any DDRD used prior to the time you notify BankOne of a lost or stolen DRC, whether such use was by you or anyone else, is permanenty forfeited and cannot be restored."
"The Program is not available to any authorized users of your Disney's Visa Card. Only the primary Cardmember is entitled to participate in the Program."
[Hey! Does that mean that because my husband "applied" for the Visa--since I don't work--that I can't use the DRC, even though I have a Disney's Visa in my name?!?]
"The Disney Rewards is not a FDIC insured deposit, a credit card, a debit card or a stored value card with monetary value. You understand that by using the DRC you may not be able to make certain claims or use defenses that may be available to you if your use a credit or debit card or a stored value card with monetary value."
I think that's all the "good" stuff. Enjoy! And I hope this helped someone.
On a personal note, I think the change may be good for a number of reasons. First, I can order the card in October, and then if I earn at least 10 more DDRD in November, I can have them added to my DRC before we leave for WDW the beginning of December. Also, if something happens and we don't take our trip (I'll be 5.5 months pregnant at the time, so I worry about these things), I should be able to take the card to the DS and apply it to a park pass if it looks like we won't make another trip before the DRC expires (otherwise I'd be stuck with ~$100 in WDW certs that I couldn't use before they expired). I was planning to use the WDW certs towards food purchases. So this screw up my budgeting a little (because I'll have to keep track of the balance on the card, instead of just pulling out another $10 cert), but I can adjust, right?
