We got paperwork for an add-on at AKL, butnow wife and I are having second thoughts. I know we should have thought it through better before, but anyone have experience in canceling. We just got our paperwork today.

We are on the fence, but what should we do if we decide not to go throug with it? Call the guide? Send a writing back to DVC? Also, what happens to our deposit?

And most importantly, do I have to return the Member tote bag :sad1:

thanks for any advice

Call your guide.

Did you already pay the down payment? If so, call member accounting as well and tell them that you do not want to go through with the transaction. Make sure that they credit your card back.

We are now members, but a few years ago we bought in but canceled (we got so scared!). My husband did all the talking and he said they couldn't have been nicer and they were extremely easy to work with. And, they told him to keep the hats and tote bags!! I will say though that we are very pleased we bought (again) and wish we had not originally canceled that first purchase. It only goes up every year and we personally believe very much in vacations and family time, so it's money well-spent. Good luck with your decision!

If it were me, I would send an official "notice of cancellation" to DVC in Celebration....There is info in the packet on notice of cancellation.
I would send the letter certified return receipt requested.

Good luck!:goodvibes

why are you having second thoughts? Anything we can help you talk out? It is alot of money and it is scary, but if you vacation at disney often, it is, for many, a good purchase (and the resale market has been pretty consistent if you change your mind in the future)

let us know if we can help :)

thanks for all the board support. people who love disney are so nice :lovestruc

We already own at SSR. There were several reasons why we wanted to add on and some of those don't apply anymore. First, we had a huge family gathering this summer and we banked, used and borrowed points for that trip, so the thought of getting more really was attractive - but when we re-thought it, what we have would have been ample had we not used so many points for the gathering (we got 2 2BRs, and 2 studios for 5 nights). Secondly, what was attractive about the current deal is the DP at SSR. We are waitlisted for a studio or 1BR this december for SSR, but I didnt realize that the DP could not be used for waitlist, and also we are getting more pessimistic about getting something as the dates seem very popular. Finally, we thought we were getting a better deal than we got - we were hoping for 2008 AKL points but we learned that we will not get them until April 09.

Ultimately, more points for this year for use in december and some for next year was our goal and we thought this add-on would do it. After fully thinking it through, our problem is a 1-2 year issue, hopefully. Unless of course, the extended family had too much fun and want to do it again next year!

decisions, decisions. thanks for all the help and support, though.

Your last line says it all. The family WILL want to do it again, and that's what makes the add-on kind of nice.

Hmmmm. Perhaps the extended family should buy their own DVC, LOL.

If this is a 1-2 year problem, I think you should go ahead and cancel. You can always add on later if your needs change in the future. You can also arrange to transfer points into your account if you want to go before the 1-2 year period passes or if you want to do a big trip again.
