I would call Alamo and check. Last time we tried to get our car early we were told no (buy a not very nice person), and I know that when you book your car, as little as a half hour difference in pick up or drop off can make a big difference in rate. We only had an hour to kill so we just hung out until our rental time.
Must depend on the mood of the car rental agent and maybe on any revenue production quota.
With the same agency (not Alamo) I have received it both ways. Namely one time he gave me the car early in a straightforward manner. Another time he said no and I ended up waiting 2 hours until official pickup time. There was a third time when I got there early and he said I could either wait or pay more for an upgrade. I chose to wait and he called me back in a few minutes to give me the car early. When I got to the car I found it looked like what the upgrade would have been.
This will depend on your anticipated drop off time as well as the pick up time. Alamo charges for 24-hour periods (say noon to noon) plus extra charges for additional hours. The hourly rates tend to be pretty high, typically about half the daily rate, so once you’ve added two hours to a reservation, you get close to paying for an extra day. If you are not already using the full 24 hours on your last day, you may be able to modify pick-up time without adding hourly charges.
