Change room to lower category, pay higher price?

I see a room available that I like better than ours. It's a lower category but prices have gone up since we booked so it's currently priced higher than what we paid. I know if you book UP in category you pay the current price... but what if you are switching DOWN a category?? Would they really make me pay more?

They would... they changed the policy on this somewhat recently but switching categories means paying the prevailing rate now. The only price "locked in" is the category you booked.

Maybe you could try to call and ask for a “one-time exception”. The yield team might want to have a stateroom of your original category free better than one of the category you'd like to book.
