Hi, we are fairly new to DVC and initially purchased 190 points in our first buy in at Animal Kingdom-Kidani Village. We live in So Cal so added 100 points at Disney's Grand Californian. Obviously we will get there more than going to Florida. Is there any way to have our 190 pts from AK traded or transferred to Grand Ca? We don't really understand all of this quite yet. By the way, we bought at AK because there were no villas in CA yet. We joined in early 2008.

Thanks in advance!

Although called "points", we all really are investing in real estate, and the ownership of our points is governed by the each state's "Time Share" and real estate laws. There are no points to trade. A quick review of your deed will reveal that it is indeed real estate in Florida that you have.

The only mechanism for your desire at this point is to sell your "points" in florida in the resale market (with Disney holding a right of first refusal in all sales) and using the recouped funds to buy into DVC in California.

You can do one point transfer each year. Not the same as transferring home resorts but as long as you can book in the 7 month window, it is the same thing

Before you sell your AKV points, I'd would make sure there are VGC points available. There was a recent announcement that VGC is almost sold out.

There's no point in transferring them as you can book anywhere at 7 months anyway.

Since VGC is nearly sold out, you might start looking at the resale market and just use your AKV points at the 7 month mark for stays at VGC in the meantime. Frankly, I'd probably try that route first to see if VGC is usually available at the 7 month mark for you expected travel times. If it isn't then I would probably sell AKV unless you see yourself wanting to go to WDW every 3 years or so. If you find availability at VGC at the 7 month mark most of the time, then I'd probably just leave it as is and make your bookings on the 7 month calendar.
