We have changed out first disney cruise to a 7 nighter.. we originally were going to be on a land and sea. Long story short the 7 night will have the kids only missing 3 days. I am excited as well as fearful of the unknown... (afraid of sea sickness mostly).. Its the Eastern cruise and I am hoping that this October 29-November 5 will have calm seas and wonderful weather..

Anything I should know about the 7 day would be appreciated.

Thanks :cheer2:

That is good news...In my opinion..

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the eastern..I enjoy the extra sea day, as well as the great beaches in St.THomas, and St. Maartan...We usually do our own beach day with taxis....

I hope for calm seas for you..And actually children usually do much better than we do...Mine did not even feel it the first trip...

Enjoy your planning.. :goodvibes

Talk to your doctor so that he can prescribe the motion sick patches you place (usually) behind your ear. I find that the patch does not make me as drowsy as the "less drowsy" Dramamine.

Since you don't know how you'll react, I'd suggest taking along some Dramamine as well. On the first day (the day you board), don't take anything and see how you do. If you do start feeling sick, you can start with the Dramamine (I believe it takes effect faster than the patch) and switch over to the patch the 2nd day.

Thanks for the info and the good wishes.

Any excursions that I should or shouldn't do... ?

actually there is a new med for seasickness that does not make you sleepy like dramamine...it is called bonine (metoclopromide) and you can buy a big bottle of 100 tablets at the pharmacy of walmart for about $7. I personally gave 1 tablet every morning and night to each person in my family and we never had any problems but it is important to take your first dose a couple hours before getting on board for maximum effectiveness. If you have extreme motion sickness issues, i would get a presciption from your doctor for some anti-nausea suppositories...they work really well if you can't keep anything down.... :sunny:

Bonine has the exact same active ingredient as the Less Drowsy Formula for Dramamine (both use 25mg or Meclizine hydrochloride).

When ever I've used the Less Drowsy Formula, I would still find my self falling asleep during things like watching movies while on-board. When I asked my doctor about another alternative that wouldn't make me even that drowsy, he directed me to the perscribed patches.

I found that the patches did indeed made me feel even less drowsy than the Less Drowsy Formula for Dramamine. However, they area also a more powerful drug. You're limited to wearing them for 72 hours at a time, and even then you can experience side-effects. I don't think I ever wore one for more than 2 1/2 days and never saw a reaction. DW wore one of hers for the full 72 hours (somethink of a waste because the last 8 hours was in bed sleeping). When she woke up, she realized she had problems focusing on things close-up (for example, she couldn't read a menu). But we soon realized that the drug apparently caused her eyes to dialate, and that tied to strong prescription eye-glasses was causing the focusing problem. Another night's sleep cleared it right up.

Bottom line... talk to your doctor.
