Just had a phone call from good old Thomas Cook - basically they've cocked up and haven't allowed enough time for us to connect in Miami (even though I double checked it with them when I booked)

So I've got a choice of a later (4 hours later !!) connecting flight which won't get us into MCO til 8pm

or a full refund....

with this refund I can get premium (BA World Traveler plus) seats for the same price as my old economy seats into Miami and we can either
-drive up that afternoon (2pm arrival)
-or stay overnight and drive up in the morning (and waste a day travelling when we could be in Seaworld)

???????????????????????

Hi Tracey,

Grr to Thomas Cook, how infuriating!

I did the drive from Miami to Orlando once and it is a long drive (around 4 hours), personally I'd do it the following day, as remember the 2pm arrival is 7pm your time, and by the time you've cleared immigration, got your luggage & collected your hire car you may not feel like another 4 hours in the car.

If it was me, I'd stay in Miami overnight, be up and off first thing (6am ish), stop off for a quick breakfast on the way and be in SeaWorld before lunchtime.

I agree with Jo - it is too far to drive after the long flight - we have flown into Miami several times and the furthest we have driven directly after the flight was to Vero Beach and that for me, was too far, too soon.

I'd either go with Jo's suggestion, or if you want to be on your way, you could overnight in Fort Lauderdale (spend the evening on the beach) which with clear roads will take you 50/60 minutes from MIA.

We regularly fly into Miami and drive up - takes about 3 hours, and we share the driving between us. We only live 15/20 mins from Heathrow and means we can get someone to drop us off saving on the car parking and worrying about traffic jams on the M25.

We get in about the same time we would have flying from Gatwick on the Orlando flights.

However, have just discovered the AA flights which include the flight up to Orlando at same price (or often cheaper than BA etc.) so that's what we will be looking at in future.

I would definitely take the upgraded flight to Miami.

Could you possible book a day earlier so add another day to allow for the travelling?

Well, the deed is done :)

WT+ flights into Miami (saving us £9) and car collection changed (free of charge) to Miami :Pinkbounc

There's 3 of us to share the driving so it shouldn't be too much of a problem - the girls will probably slepp all teh way up and tehn be awake all night lol !

Can't go a day earlier as England are playing SA in the Rugby World Cup that afternoon (yes really  !!)

foxyfee - we were supposed to fly MIA-MCO with AA (special deal with BA) but they only allowed us 75 mins to connect:( I queried it at the time but they were positive it was enough time. Next time I'll trust my own TA knowledge and not rely on somebody else ! ;)
