Hi all! I was just wondering what the process is for changing my las name on my contract. I got married last year and need to change my contract to match my legal name. I would like to know what I'm talking about before I call member services.

Also, how long will it take to receive my new member card once my name in changed? Are we still able to pick up a new card at Saratoga Springs in case I don't get my card in time?

Thanks!

I don't know how the name change on the contract will work (time/cost). I did however have my member name changed to my complete full name (I.e. Tom Morrow to Thomas Morrow). I got my new member card via FedEx 2 days after calling.

You would need to contact Member Administration. They can be reached at the same number, but a different option off the phone menu.

Yes, you can get new Member ID Cards at:
Preview Center @ SSR
BWV
BLT
AKV Kidani Village

I understand that I will have to call member services, but I would like to know the actual process. Such as what I will need to provide to them, if there are forms to fill out, if I need to pay a fee, etc. I want to be prepared so this can be done quickly.

If your looking to change your name on the actual deed you will need to have a lawyer file it with the county court the property is located in. After that's been completed you send copies of the paperwork to MS. I had a name taken off our account for the Hilton Head property and had to hire a lawyer in South Carolina. You should be able to find one that will do it pretty reasonably. I think ours cost around $150.

I suggest you find out by calling Member Services and asking it what you need to do. MS can tell you exactly what it requires and could suggest the easiest or cheapest way to accomplish the task. If there are forms that must be completed, MS could provide you those forms.

Here on the disboards we try to share our experiences with others. But sometimes my situation is not exactly like someone else's situation. South Carolina may have different requirements than Florida, or Hawaii, or California. By talking directly to MS you'll find out everything you need for your situation.

As others have said to actually change the name on the deed, it is a somewhat expensive and paperwork driven legal process.

However, I believe DVC will change the name on their "system" and send you a new Blue membership card with you new name if you send them a copy of your marriage certificate (fax or email a scan)

Our daughter (who is on our contract) did this when she got married a few years ago, and I believe that is still the case.
As WDRL said above, one phone call to MS and you will know for sure.

SC does require a lawyer to be involved but not OC. If you can get it done for $150 total I'd agree. Otherwise all you need is a filed quit claim deed that meets FL law requirements. I believe DVC will change the name they use without a deed change so I'd check with Member admin first. Most closing companies are more in the $450 or so range and I would not do it for that cost. There's really no problem with leaving it as is unless one wanted to add the spouse in which case a deed change would be required.

Thanks everyone. I called member admin and got a message, but it instructed to fax a copy of the reason for name change and a signed letter with the details (or mail it) to them. So I will do it this weekend so they will have it when they come back on Tuesday.

Thanks everyone! I will keep you updated on what they say for others who are wondering.
