Starting January 2 all room cards will have specific names on them, (not just the reservation name as they do now).

Not sure if this is to control room occupancy, early entry abuses, or what but it is an interesting change.

If I hear more from Disney friends I will share.

Happy Holidays to all.

Are they going to put MYW passes on the room keys? You will need to use biometrics for them at the turnstiles, so they will need ID to match the pass if the biometrics fail. So the name has to be on the pass.

Wow! That is interesting. My husband will be happy, he is tired of CM's handing him the bill and jokingly referring him as "Mrs. XXXXX" and asking him to sign it.

Yes, I've heard the kids will also get their own names. It is all connencted with early/late extra hours.

will you need these for the bus transportation?

Is the biometrics thing confirmed or are they just in the process of testing it? There had been another post, and since I haven't seen anything "official" on it, just wondering if they have made it official.

And I wonder if it will just be tied to room keys (biometrics) or if they will have it on passes you get at the parks too?

And just my opinion - I bet this will slow up the entrance lines! We had problems everyday with ours this last trip. Non-biometrics just flow right thru!

I agree that the biometric scanners are a failed idea. I have seen nothing but problems from them since they day they were implemented. They seemed to turn down the sensitivity... so things are a bit faster, but I still think the process is unacceptably slow.

A friend had the WDW training for the new ticket prices, structure, etc. They were told starting January 2 all tickets will require "the biometrics thing."

So far we've used our current APs for 11 days over 2 trips with 6 more days to come in May, and we've never had a single problem; nor has it taken more than a second or two to pass through. I'd submit that, when it comes to turn-style slowdowns, biometrics fall a distant second to those folks who wait until they are next in line to starting digging in purses or pockets for tickets, then have to distribute them to their whole group. I'd also suggest that it takes longer for the security guard to thoroughly search a back-pack / diaper bag than it does to process a biometric pass.

Plus, we've also heard rumors.with.legitimate.sources that they plan on adding entrance turnstyles to handled the increased biometric load.

My take on this is that they will turn down the sensitivity, yielding admission times that aren't meaningfully longer, yet still make people think thrice about purchased "used" tickets.

IMHO - YMMV

We also use APs and have not had any serious problems with the biometric scanners. Just make sure you have a photo ID with you as it is the back up to verify ID if there is a problem.

Also must agree with DrTomorrow that there are plenty of other variables to slow down guest movement through turnstiles.

I think it is great the IDs will have specific names on them. My DD23 has a different last name than I do. When she uses the card wih my name on it, she signs her name and has been questioned many times. Front desk CMs cannot seem to agree if she should sign the back with her name or mine. It has been a mess for years.

We used to always have resort ids/tickets with individual names on them. I'm glad that they're coming back. :cool1:

Since we started doing APs we rarely have had trouble with the scans....a demagnetized AP once or twice.

Our family has used the ap's for the last 2 years and had just a few slow downs.I also agree the line usually slows when the tickets are pulled out at the last min and distributed to an entire party.I would rather see a new card similar to room key that can be scanned and a pin number could be added for extra security.

The biometric system is to make sure the same person uses the pass all the time. If there was a pin # system, you could hand your pass to a relative and give them your pin #.

When I was there earlier this month, they were adding additional turnstiles at all the parks.

I've have a problem with the biometrics because I'm in an ECV and the gates are to the right of the turnstyles so I can not reach the bio reader with my right hand. I always have a photo ID ready. Most times the CM don't ask for it but just process my AP and let me through.

Mary Anne,

What are these early/late extra hours you're talking about?

Disney resort guests are allowed into certain parks on certain days an hour early and on certain days you can stay 3 hours later than guests who are not staying at a Disney resort.

Each member of your family over 3 will need a Disney resort ID to participate.
