change dates rather than cancel?

We've paid for our family's trip and also for his parents. Now, parents are too ill to go. We're too late for the 45 days.

Rather than cancel and forfeit the $200 (right?) can we just "change the dates" of that portion of the trip and use it to pay for our trip next year?

I'll call in to ask if no one knows.

Oh, that stinks! Hugs to you and the sick parents - so sorry for you guys.
I know that I have heard people doing just this before, and that it wasn't a big deal - and I would think in this current economic situation that Disney knows they'll make more than the cancellation $200 if they just move your vacation up a few months. I think they'll be willing to hold onto you as a future guest.

It depends on with whom you booked. If you booked directly with Disney, which is doesn't sound like you did, I know they will transfer your reservations to new dates for you no problem. Otherwise it depends on the travel company.

I called and she said it was NO problem at all. We booked through Disney (except flights which the CM said was actually much easier to change than if we HAD booked flights through Disney).

So it looks like we'll be able to shift that $$ to the next trip (hopefully a FD bounceback for 2010!).

I guess we'll get a credit for the flight (SW) or just have to eat that cost, which is okay.

So we'll go this fall sans the parents and then BB for next year (hopefully) and save the $200 cancellation fee (yea!).

JUST FYI, the CM also said that if one of the parents goes we can still shift the balance forward if we don't want to have the cancellation fees.

Obviously, we hope they can BOTH go, but if not then Disney has several options.
