Change Cruise After PIF

So I'm thinking about switching from the Dream out of Miami to the Wish out of PC in September. Is this an option if I'm PIF without penalty to the payments I made towards the initial reservation on the Dream?

It all depends on the departure date for your Dream cruise. Currently, you can cancel it without penalty if you are more than 59 days out for cruises through September 30, 2022 provided you are not in concierge or have a restricted rate. You can see the information you need at this link under the “Relaxed Cancellation Fee Schedule” section. https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/featured/book-with-confidence/
Cruise is 9/5-9/9 for the Dream and the same for the Wish. So in theory I could modify to the Wish say in July and I'd be okay with current policy in place?

Assuming you don’t have a restricted non-refundable rate, you should be able to transfer 100% of the money from your Dream cruise to a Wish cruise since the Dream cruise is more than 59 days out.

Just be aware of any difference in fares - and the Wish fare may still increase the longer you wait.

You should be able to transfer it. If the cruise you are on is more than the one you change to, the difference becomes non-refundable OBC. If the one you are currently on is lass than the one you change to, you would need to pay the balance immediately on changing since the PIF date is passed

I’m guessing the date is passed…not sure. If it has not and you had paid to be able to book excursions at your Castaway level day, the difference should be refundable or you would have more time to pay it before PIF date other than to TRY to book excursions.

(I’d also note that even concierge and platinum have reported not getting Jung’s on Wish cruises, so if that is important I would take that into account.)

Whether or not you can switch to a different cruise and whether or not you have to pay a penalty for doing so is dependent on two things:
  1. Whether or not you booked a restricted rate. GT bookings, and certain other discounted bookings, can't be changed to a different date.
  2. The date of the booked cruise. It has to be far enough away that cruisers are not yet required to be paid in full. Your cruise is far enough out that this isn't an issue.
It doesn't matter if you've paid the whole cruise price in full, as long as you're before the required "paid in full" date, which is what most people are referring to when they say PIF.

1.) Not restricted at all at this point (thought about changing to concierge)

2.) I would not be switching to the Wish till July or so (which is after the PIF date (July 7th). I know I'd have to pay the difference right there and then but trying to figure out if I would lose money doing so on what I've paid towards the Dream cruise.

If you wait until after DCL's PIF date, then yes, you will have to pay a fee.

If you change after the official PIF date, then you will be subject to penalty. I think that is 20% at the first penalty level, and increases as you get closer to the cruise date. I suggest you try to finalize your plans before that PIF deadline.

Thanks all for your input. Probably won't be doing the switch then since I'll get penalized for the modification after the PIF date of July 7 :)

Your other option is to simply cancel your current Dream reservation right now for a full refund of the money you have paid DCL rather than transferring your reservation and the money to a different date. Then, when you are ready in July, you can book a new reservation for a cruise on the Wish.
