I was shopping earlier tonight at the mall with my husband. We walked through the cosmetics section and passed the Chanel counter. I stopped, went back, and sprayed Chanel No. 5 on my wrist. Immediately I was taken back in time, somewhere in my twenties/early thirties. DH bought me that fragrance long ago, and I would wear it for special occasions...going out to a great dinner, going away for a weekend, holiday time, etc. When DH smelled my wrist, it brought back similar memories apparently, and he almost lost his balance. (I think because he had closed his eyes, lol).

That is one great perfume. I think I am going to be heading back to the Chanel counter at Macy's very soon. ;)

What about you, do you like Chanel No. 5 too?

I do. I was in love with another Chanel fragrance years ago. It was just so expensive that i stopped wearing it.

It is funny how fragrances take you back. My mom always wears Oscar de Larenta (sp) and when my folks moved away, I had a client who wore it and every time she came in, I thought of my mom because of her perfume. You know, that lady had a stroke and got very, very sick (passed away since) and could not do anything for herself for a few years before she died. her DH drove her 45 mins. to the salon and when she came in she always had that perfume on--every time w/o fail! They had a storybook romance--I think I will send him a card. Anyway...

I used to wear White Shoulders and that always takes me back. Young love, oh my!!

Mmm, I love Chanel No. 5. No memories associated with it, though.

My memories usually have to do with Tabu. When I was little, my dad would take my mom to work and swing by to pick up her coworker. The coworker was this older, morbidly obese woman who doused herself and all her belongings in Tabu. I loved her so much, and hence loved her cologne. She would give me purses and scarves when she was done with them and they'd all smell like her Tabu. I wore it in my teens, and my high school sweetheart loved the smell of it. Every time we hugged, we'd be wrapped up in Tabu and leather (from his jacket).

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. :goodvibes

In the 70's my father and all of my uncles went shopping and bought Chanel No. 5 for my mom and aunts. My mother used hers on rare, special occasions. She still has the bottle! At the time it was an extravagant gift.

Old Spice (the original scent) reminds me of my father!

I have a bottle of Chanel No. 5 on my bathroom counter right now!

If I ever smell Drakkar Noir it takes me right back to my highschool boyfriend, and memories that I probably shouldn't share. They're putting a smile on my face right now, though. :)

My nana use to wear No 5. Yesterday, we were watching tv and the No 5 commercial came on. DD17 said, "I love that perfume!! It smells sooo good!! I want some for Christmas". I just smiled at the memories it brought back.:flower3:

Ahhh, no matter what I try new, three of my all time faves are Channel 5, White Shoulders, and Jessica McClintock :goodvibes ! Our DS gave me Channel 5 some yrs back, I always wore it for special occassions and thought of him. They may be oldie goldies, but still preferred by many. One that really takes me back and quickly tells your age is Youth Dew by Estee. ;)

For me, it's Charlie. Charlie was my favorite perfume back in HS and the scent of it reminds me of HS.

Now I wear something totally different..either Coconut Lime Verbena body spray from Bath and Bodyworks or Clinique Happy.

My great-aunt, who was the most elegant person I've ever known always wore Chanel No. 5. Every time I smell it, I think of her. She just passed away this year at the age of 97 -- still beautiful, still elegant, still living in her own home independently.

I wore Chanel No. 5, as well, until I had a baby. From that point on, I've been lucky if I get some deodorant on in the morning, much less a scent. :scared:

My mom hated it for some reason. I am a lot like her in many ways except this one. I tried it at Sephora once and loved it. Just a very classy smell to me :)

Never had Chanel, but thinking about what smells take you back...

I found an old dusty bottle of "Preferred Stock" in my DH's things...that always reminds me of 7th and 8th grade dances. No one boy in particular, but it seemed like every teenage boy wore Preferred Stock for awhile. I can still remember wondering who I'd dance with for the last dance of "Stairway to Heaven." Memories!

Aunt Lois. I LOVED her perfume and her elegance.

I wore it for two years, then moved on to CHANEL and I love that too.
