Chances for the 2nd week of Dec?

Currently we are booked at our home resort which is SSR... what are the chances of getting something at either BLT or BWV the 9-15 of Dec?. I know not to count on it but just wondering. Our DD will 2 1/2 and we really want a resort where we could walk to a park. If we have to stay at SSR we will be fine with that just HOPING.

As with everything, there are two possibilities. either you will get it, or you won't. it is good to know that your second choice is still a good one. staying at SSR is not a bad choice. the commentary recommending you call at 8:01 AM at the 7 month window doesn't mean much. if the resort is booked, it is booked. it doesn't get less booked at the 7-month window...it just means more people are able to call.

my belief is that lots of people book reservations at their home resort before the 7 month, just to have a ressie available. they are holding the reservation in case they can use it. better to keep one than to need one. then they decide maybe they won't go or they will change their dates.

i think more opportunities come up as you approach the date. perhaps people are holding their home (BLT / BWV) while they are waiting to try to get BCV or VWL. you are holding SSR hoping to get elsewhere, maybe they are doing the same. so at the 7-month window, they may call to get BCV and then give up BWV. but if you call at 8:01 and they don't get thru until 8:15, it won't work. they need to give up their room so you can get it and give up yours.

it is enough to drive you crazy. just waitlist and hope for the best. but keep checking. someone may decide at 4-months that they can get off work that week and cancel or reschedule. the deadline is 30 days before check-in. if you haven't gotten it by then, it is very unlikely (but not impossible). there is nothing wrong with SSR at WDW? i'd rather be there than at work!! good luck.

IMO, being second on the waiting list is preferable to being 50th. but suit yourself.

Last year I had no problem booking a studio garden view room at BWV at the 7 month mark for the 2nd week of Dec. Unfortunately i had to eventually cancel that reservation since we needed to switch to a 1 bedroom and at that point there was no availability, so we ended up 1 week in OKW and 1 week in AKV.

I already have my home resort booked for Dec 9-24 and will be looking to switch it over to BWV at the 7 month mark.

Just curious, how far out did you reschedule? We're booked at BWV, want to switch to AKV, but waiting for an AKV resale with expiring points that I want to use!

Sorry can't remember when we rescheduled from BWV to OKW/AKV, but I think it was in the early summer.

I just checked BLT and the only thing available for the whole week is the 3 BR GV. Some of the other rooms have 1-3 days available, but not all the days.

Well thanks for checking we were really hoping for a studio with MK view but like I said before if we have to stay SSR we will be good with that.

yes, you keep your original reservation and MS puts you on a list in case a villa becomes available. you can only waitlist 2 types of villas at most.

MS will walk you through it - if your new reservation would require you to borrow pts, they will confirm that you understand that and are willing to borrow if needed.

one waitlist came through for me a month later. one came through 5 months after i got on the waitlist (at the 7 month window). and one never came through.

if you're just looking for 1 villa, it's worth a shot if you need to waitlist...

To my knowledge you cannot call until 9:00AM but can book on-line at 8:00. If you really want BLT or BWV I would do what PP said and WL BLT lakeview and just got to TOWL for fireworks - you will have a much better chance of getting that since there are more rooms and less demand also BWV preferred is your best option.

owners generally book the cheaper standard rooms during the 11 month window. during a super-busy season like early december, those rooms can be tough to get.

you never know but odds are against it.

Ok I am gonna explain the excat situations so you awesome people can tell me the BEST way to go about this.

We have 120 pts every UY, we banked all of 2011 points currently at SSR we are in a 1 bedroom for our week which is 154... if I waitlist anything are they going to borrow from future pts we want to avoid this at all cost because in 2014 we have a HUGE family reunion trip planned and need the pts for then...
So I would like to know how I would WL online and/or thru Member Services??
I know if we get a Studio MK View it will be 117 for our time period... I am just confused because I want to make sure I have some sorta of reservation. Sorry I am easily confused and I think I confused myself. Thanks so much.

Your right I dunno if I would be comfortable doing that... I would need a ton more information about how you waitlist online.

i don't think you can waitlist online yet, but you could at least look at what is available for your dates if you login online at 8am.

then if what you want is available, i think you could cancel your current reservation and book the new one. but there is a risk that while you are canceling the old reservation, someone else might take the new one. then you'd definitely need to call MS to waitlist and you wouldn't have the safety net of the SSR reservation.

they'd only borrow if the new reservation is larger than the one you will be canceling, and you don't have enough banked and/or current pts to cover the new reservation.

only 10% of BLT villas are MK view villas, so those can be tougher to get than lake view (which makes up 80% of BLT villas). not impossible but usually tougher...

Studios & 2 bedrooms are totally soldout at BWV for those dates, all views. There are some 1 bedrooms but not for all the nights. That week is very popular.

December 9 to 15: there is a garden view studio or 2 bedroom currently available. 1 bedroom available for standard & garden view.
