This question is mostly for people who have booked a DCL cabin with a guaranteed status.

My parents are booked on the 14 day Panama Canal Cruise from CA to FL. They have a category 10 guaranteed room. What do you think their chances of being upgraded are?

The nature of this cruise is different from the standard cruises so I wonder if the past can be a predictor.
Someone on the boards once did a survey and came up with a figure of 4% for comped upgrades.
:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: A little pixie dust has been scientifically proven to increase your chances- GOOD LUCK!!!

if the cruise isn't sold out it'll be close to sold out - so I'm not counting on any upgrades - told our group to pick the category you want NOW and book it, because if anyone got a lower category to save money thinking they'd be upgraded, I think they'll be sorely disappointed.

I would think that you're right about people wanting higher catagories. Most people on a 14 day cruise is going to want at least a porthole!! Therefore if you have a cat. 10 guarantee...that is what you are going to get. I think that catagories 9 and up will be sold out.

i'm sorta hoping i get upgraded. we're in a cat 12 GTY and there are only 13 cabins in that cat, so i think the chances are good. on the other hand, there's a bunch of DW's family coming along (4 cat 11 cabins) and our reservations are "linked" for dining, but neither of us want to be put in a room next to any of them, and especially NOT an adjoining room. ;) nothing against her family, of course. so if they upgrade us, i hope they still put us in another part of the ship.

thiscloud~ We cruised with friends & our staterooms were all over the ship- not a problem, just call them by stateroom phone & set up meeting places... It's kind of nice to have a little breathing room if you are always together....

A 12 GTY is usually a good indicator for an upgrade. Hope you get one!

dianthus: heh, i actually speak from past experience. dw, dd, and i took a 4-day disney cruise on the wonder on 9/1/2002. my mom and dad came along too. we booked a cat 12 gty, and by the time my parents booked, they could only get a cat 10 with an assigned cabin at a much higher price. we linked our reservations together for dining.

when we got to the port, we had discovered that they bumped us UP to cat 11, and bumped my parents DOWN to a cat 11, so we could be adjoining (we did NOT want this -- see, it's not just dw's family we don't want to be next to ;)).

so, we talked to the reps and it was too much trouble to get it back the way it was (cat 12 for us, cat 10 for them), so they refunded my folks some money for bumping them down, and we all got priority palo reservations. in the end, it wasn't that bad, but we just want to avoid getting lumped too closely with the other cabins for this 14 day trip! :hyper:
