I want to plan a land/sea vacation. Staying at Poly is on my bucket list. How hard is it to get a room at Poly on rented points? I know it varies by time of year. Are there any times of the year that are easier? I'm willing to plan my cruise time around when is best to stay at Poly.

I secured a reservation for beginning of October, also Columbus Day weekend. Did it at 11 months out with no problem. If you can plan 11 months out you probably have a good chance.

Thanks! I am hoping to find an owner there to save a little money over using David's and get the 11 month advantage.

You really need the 11 month advantage in fall. October and November are an availability hot mess right now, and we're still in home resort.

I got a studio for late July at 7 months no problem. It seems that summer is a much quieter season for DVC, so you can plan around that. Then again, a summer cruise is nice and toasty...too much so for some.

Summer months (July and early August), Spring (after Easter but before Memorial Day) would be the easiest. Holiday weekends are bad, as is 4th of July week. Your odds increase if you book at 11 months and go down once your reach 7 months. Mid-September thru mid-January would be the most difficult to book. A lot will depend on whether there is a Poly owner who will rent their points to you at 11 months or barring that, anything available for your stay when the 7-month booking window opens for other DVC owners.

Savings from renting "direct" may or may not happen. Sometimes owners charge as much (and even more) than David's.

We booked a week at the Polynesian in May at 6 months out. Availability in the summer seems to be pretty open even after the 7 month mark.

I don't think it's too hard to get a Poly room on rented points. However I think this is largely because Poly DVC rooms do not offer something particularly over and above a Poly hotel room. Unlike at BLT or others where you can get larger rooms, Poly rooms are about the same as regular rooms but further from the feature pool. If you catch any deals like the "Sun & Fun" that's going on now, a Poly hotel room will cost you only a little more than renting and have none of the headaches plus book any time, pay later, cancel any time, and make changes up to your travel dates. This would give you the ability to book your land around the sea since the sea dates might be less flexible.

I would look at the # of nights you're staying. Say it's 6 nights, and a hotel runs you $50 more per night, that's only $300. A small upcharge when compared to the overall price of your combo-trip. Just something to consider!

You don't want to cruise in Sept. Prime hurricane season.
