Hi All,

To everyone who has given me advice in any of my previous postings, thanks so much, you all have been so helpful in my planning! I'm wondering how great the chances are for a Hurricane in Sept? We are going to Disney Sept. 25 -30. Is it more towards the end of Hurricane Season then, or are we right in the middle? How many of you were there during that time during a hurricane, or just bad weather? I'm trying to find that week's weather history from the past few years, but can't seem to find it. Thanks for the help! :Pinkbounc

There is always a chance, other than that, I don't know what to tell you. :confused3

Check out the national hurricane site nhc.noaa.gov I think. The season runs June 1 through November Sept is generally high hit time towards the end but it is always hit or miss. They may totally miss FL all together. That site should help though with predictions too.
Edit to add I believe last year Disney actually closed one day for a hurricane- but only one day.

I hope there's no major hurricane hoopla. I'll be working there and I don't want to deal with hurricanes :earseek: ... :teeth:

The hurricane predictions are trending upward, predicting 7 hurricanes with a 53% chance of hitting the east coast (compared to last century average of 31%).

Now, they could just be pushing the numbers up a little to cover their butts for last years 4 Florida hurricanes. Better safe than sorry?

Hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th.

Hurricane Charley hit August 13th, Frances hit Sept 4-5th, Ivan hit Sept 16, and Jeanne hit Sept 25, 26, 27th and I was in Central Florida for all 3 (Ivan hit the panhandle). Disney did not sustain any major damage, although the parks were closed a few days.

You really can't do anything about it. Just go ahead and plan. Chances are good you will have no problem. We weathered a hurricane that passed through overnight in the late 80's and the crowds were really light the next day. In fact, maybe you should go during hurricane season. Seriously, direct hits are extremely rare.

I've been going every Sep since 1994. I was there for Floyd and Jeanne, and I can tell you that Disney has done a great job in 'figuring out' how to handle hurricanes. The 2004 situation was much smoother, as sadly they had lots of practice.

If it does happen, it will impact maybe 1.5 days for you. The day of the hurricane, you may be shut up in your room all day, under house arrest. There will be people coming inland taking up hotel rooms. This year WDW did not run out of food etc at the resort I was at, vs when Floyd was coming and my resort ran out by 3pm day before.

So make your plans, enjoy, and don't worry - the chances of one hitting are low, and the chances of one hitting during your vacation even lower!

We were there last year from Sept. 27th-October 7th and had beautiful weather....we were really lucky though to have escaped all of the hurricanes....I think it's a more risky time of year, but its a risk I would take.....:)

Thanks, guys. I think I agree with most of the posts here to just go and hope for the best! However, it's my MOTHER (who is not going with us) that is worried about us going w/ our DD during hurricane season. From reading a few other posts, it also looked like if you arrived within a few days of a potential hurricane, that Disney let you reschedule, as well as some of the airlines. I think I'll skip the trip insurance if that's the case, and just hope that if something does hit, that Disney is nice enough to do that again. :earsboy:

Anyone think I'm crazy to skip trip insurance in Sept? I would love to save that money!

Well, we were on our honeymoon last September/October and did not have trip insurance....we were going for 11 days so we figured we'd make the best of it in the event of bad weather....however, I think we were so consumed with weddiung stuff that we didn't think of things like trip insurance.....I'd skip the insurance if I were you....

HomeSweet - as a CP, don't worry about the hurricanes. They make sure your safe in the CP complex - or you can choose to try and pick up a hurricane ride out shift ( recommended! ) PM me for more info.

As a guest - I realize that you don't want to lose a day or two due to a hurricane, but if you must be in florida for a hurricane, WDW is probably the best place to be. I was there for all the hurricanes last year, and felt completely safe for each one. I was in the Contemporary Resort as a Ride Out Crew. You never know, the room next door to you might be the CM that delivered the flashlight, towels, tp, ect to your room hours earlier to prepare for the storm!

We've been going to WDW in September pretty regularly since 1975 and NEVER had any hurricane related problems...except once. And that was a hurricane that hit Pa., not Florida!!
Right now, they haven't a clue if any Hurricanes will hit Florida this September. Attempting to predict next years Hurricane season is simply guessing of the type that really does no one any good. It may be right-it may be completely wrong. And as we've seen from recent Hurricanes, even when they develp they hardly know where they are headed a few hours in advance--not to mention days.
So I'd just plan to go in September and not worry too much about it.
