chance of cruising?

My DH and I REALLY want to go on a 7-night cruise this summer but he is currently finishing his PhD and we don't yet know what his schedule is going to be like. What are my chances (realistically) of booking a cruise on points less than 3 months before the cruise date? (I know, I know, before you start in on the fact we want to use our points - we really don't want to deal with the hassle of renting. We've never done it before and it just seems like it would be a lot of trouble.) We have been on a 4-night cruise before (pre-DVC) and stayed in a category 10 and thought it was fine so we aren't really picky about the type of accomodations. Has anyone tried to get reservations with points that close to sailing?

Yes, I have booked the Disney Cruise with MS less than 3 months prior to sailing. One of the good things using points for this, is that the point fee is fixed whether you book 11 months ahead or book the month prior.

Spur of the moment can be lots of fun! Good luck!

It can be done but you may not be able to be too choosey about the type of cabin you get. Call DCL (not DVC to book it, just DCL to check availability) directly and see what is available now and find out if there are lots of openings or not. That may give you some peace of mind for some dates or it may make you see that it is unrealistic.

You may want to schedule a cancelable reservation as a backup then before the 60 day window see where you are.
