Challenger explosion 1/28/86

I remember this day... we were supposed to have a girl scout meeting after school but it was cancelled and we all went right home. I remember watching it on tv and just being really shocked and sad

It was the day of my DFIL's funeral. After the funeral, we were back at DMIL's house and a bunch of people went in the den and turned on the TV. I hadn't heard the news of the Challenger tragedy yet. I just remember thinking how insensitive all those people were to be sitting watching TV when we had just buried DFIL. :confused3 I soon found out what they were watching.:sad2:

I remember it, too. I was in high school and we had a snow day. I was drying my hair in the bathroom and my sister came in to tell me to come and watch TV because something happened to the space shuttle. :guilty:

Oddly enough, many years later and many miles apart from each other, on Sept. 11, 2001, I had keys in hand and was just about to leave the house when the phone rang. It was my sister telling me to turn on the TV. I asked her if she meant CNN (having no idea what was happening and knowing her local news wasn't the same as ours) and she told me to tune into any station.

I remember that my sister gave me a heads up on both sad situations. :guilty:

I was in 6th grade. We had just come back in from recess, and my teacher was out in the hallway talking to one of the other teachers. He suddenly ran into the room and to the back, where we had a radio. The boy that sat next to the classroom door turned around and said, "The space shuttle blew up." We all just sat there for a while, listening to the radio, then got back to work.

It was all over the TV when I got home, though.

I remember it sinking in during my 11th grade French class. I may have heard it sooner, but this is my first memory.

We watched it in Gov class in high School. Our teacher had been one of the runners up to be in the new teacher in space program. He was beside himself in grief

I was a senior in H.S. I was home that day...I can't remember if I was sick, or if it was a snow day...but I watched it from morning until night time. I always felt "closer" to the tragedy because my Aunt was a teacher in the same school district as Christa McAuliffe.
