Chair bed at Saratoga Springs?

My husband just booked us a 1-bedroom at Saratoga Springs. It's for October, so I know there are very few rooms anywhere and I'm thrilled we got on.

My concern is that it will not work for our son (12) and daughter (8) to share a sofa bed. I remember reading that rooms at some resorts have been revamped to have a chair in the living room that can be used as a bed, but I can't find information about that, and I can't tell whether Saratoga is one of them. (I know that Bay Lake Tower has a sleeper chair, but that's full.) My husband said that the DVC rep told him Saratoga did have a sleep chair, but everything I can find says that a 1-bedroom at Saratoga sleeps 4 (meaning 2 in the bed and 2 on the sofa).

If we have to, we can bring a sleeping bag and make the kids take turns in it, but I don't want to bother if we would have a chair for my daughter. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

There are no sleeper chairs at SSR. They are only at BLT, AKV and OKW. When we stayed there with our family of 4 in a 1 bedroom, we brought a blow up air mattress for younger DS to sleep on.

I believe that in the THVs at SSR there is a pull out chair, but not in the regular villas. There just isn't room for that pull out chair in the 1 or 2 BRS at SSR.

You could bring a air mattress for one of the kids to sleep on, but you'll also have bring the sheets. There should be plenty of pillows in the villa. If you can't bring the air mattress you might have go the route many parents have to choose where beds are shared between a parent and child. And then when the children get too old for that you'll need to reserve a 2 BR.

Sorry I couldn't give you better news.

No, there are not currently any sleeper chairs at Saratoga Springs. The consensus is that the living room does not have adequate space to support it. When fully open, those chairs are just as long and a bit wider than a standard twin bed. With the queen sofabed open, I doubt there is room.

Living rooms at AKV (Kidani), Grand Californian, Bay Lake Tower and Aulani were built a few feet deeper to allow for an extra bed. Old Key West already had the space so chairs were added earlier this year. Same for Vero.

With other resorts, it seems doubtful.

That said, SSR is due for some form of refurb in late-2011 / early-2012 so we'll know then if Disney has any other solutions up their sleeves.

Thanks all! We're currently waitlisted for Boardwalk and Beach Club, but I think we'd be better off giving up the benefit of location and trying for Old Key West or Animal Kingdom to get the benefit of space. But we can make Saratoga work if we have to.

We stayed at both OKW and SSR our last trip.

OKW definitely has more room - I'd say the living/dining/kitchen area is twice the size of SSR. The new pull-out chairs are very comfy. Unless the room we stayed in was a fluke, I'm not sure they upgraded the sofabeds during the refurbish and my kids (10 and 12) would not sleep on the sofabed pulled out. One slept on the sofa with a sleeping bag instead.

At SSR, the sofabed in the living room is very comfy and is queen size. We had enough room in the 1-bedroom and the kids liked the pool there better than OKW - but we did end up doing the one parent/one kid each in the bed and sofabed - hard to get DD and DS to share at this age.

What are your kids preferences? My daughter would happily sleep on the floor if we could stay at Beach Club with Stormalong Bay and easy Epcot access. SSR, she might not be thrilled about a sleeping bag option.

Sometimes kids (siblings) need to suck it up and deal with the cards dealt. My bro and I shared a bed when we were younger when the only option was to share a bed or take the floor. I don't see the big deal. If they have issues bring a sleeping bag as an option, share the mattress one kids under blankets, the other in the bag. Mom sleep with daughter, son with dad. .. there's many options but remember the kids can't always have their way.
