Hello,fellow DISers!
I guess I need to tell you who the cast is:
Me - LisaKeys aka Gayle. I am 53 yrs of age, an RN and a college student completing my bachelors and working towards a Masters. My dream is to earn my doctorate.
DH - David aka Grumpy. He is 6 years my junior and is as big of a Disney-fanatic as I am. You will learn later how a 3 hour advance plan of "let's go to Disney" became his first WDW trip.
DD - Melanie aka Frzndaqiri (here on the boards). She is my eldest (31) and this will be her 3rd trip. We are quite close and she is the reason this trip ever came into play (delved into later). She loves Tigger and Figment.
DSIL - Chris (31). We are also close to Mel's husband. The four of us usually see each other once a month (if not more) and spend a long day enjoying one anothers company. David & Chris enjoy the PS3, X-Box 360 and computer games while Melanie and I either surf the web or work on scrap booking.
DS and DD2 - Our other son and daughter will not be with us this trip ,
but will be included during prior trips. I will introduce them at that time.
I am fairly new to the boards, and am excited (and nervous) to attempt a PTR. I figure the worst that can happen is - I am the lone subscriber. Luckily, I laugh at my own jokes and will still be able to enjoy it for myself - LOL!
My first trip to WDW was on July 3rd, of 1975. It was my 16th B-Day, and as if I need to say this: The temps were over 100 and the humidity matched!
Back in "those days" rides required tickets. My parents purchased what seemed to be a lot of tickets (it wasn't) and we picked "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" as our first ride. As corny as it was, it was exciting to finally be at Disney.
I remember quickly splitting up, and I was alone in the park without a clue as to what rides were available and what to do. I know I didn't have a lot of tickets and didn't even understand how they were used. I rode It's a Small World once followed by The Haunted Mansion. I must tell you - if the Haunted Mansion was the only ride at Disney - I would have signed up as a life member!!! I loved it so much I rode it two more times. (I had to purchase another ticket with my own money - my parents were nowhere in sight.)
By that time (over four hours of standing in lines) I was unhappy with the park situation of having to purchase more tickets (and still not understanding how they worked), the hot, hot, hot, hot sun and the humidity beyond any steam shower!
The fact mother-nature decided to give me a present that morning (ugh) and the HUGE CROWDS (it was the day b4 the 4th of July) I had really had enough!
I met up with my parents and we all agreed it was best to leave. I found out later they had visited the Hall of Presidents, and was disappointed to have missed it; but - a Disney die-hard had been born. One day I would return!
Future posts will include 4 more trips (with and without kids) and pictures. PLUS - of course - the plans for our Jan 2011 vacation for 14 days!!!
