Hi, on our trip in Novemeber, I am seriously considering putting the kids in a nighttime babysitting program so my DH and I can dine alone one night. (A DATE???)

Question...I have been told that we MUST eat a CG, especially for the fireworks. BUT, since I have been seeing so many people over hear talking about V&A, can you tell me about it? I understand it is $$$$. If we were to get a Chef table, how much money are we talking?

I don't mind spending the money on a fancy restaurant, IF the food is something we will eat. We are meat and potato people. Think of the TV show Still Standing. LOL. We are like that couple. My DH is terrified to try anything he doesn't recognize, and he hates fancy things added to something. What I find with fancy dining is the teeny tiny amount of food on your plate. The most fancy dining I have ever done is on the DCL, Triton's. There was not much I liked, I remember thinking I wished I could order from the kids menu and get chicken..LOL

Is there a menu to V&A? I would love to try it, but I fear it may be too fancy for us Clampetts.

V&A is a wonderful fine dining experience, but there are often things on the menu that are unusual. There are few selections for each course of the meal, so you will not leave hungry but if you truly enjoy well prepared simple food it may not be the place for a great meal. CG has a wonderful view and a more familiar feeling menu, Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge also offers some very special but familiar and well prepared food. Another place I've heard good things about that may be a good choice for your taste would be Shula's at the Dolphin. Each has different atmosphere and focus, but may be more to your liking than V&A which without doing the Chef's Table cost DH and I well over $250 for dinner for the two of us.

We are Meat and Potatos people as well, and didn't care at all for V&A's. The menu was very "frou frou", and appetizers consisted of frogs legs, escargot, etc. The menu was veal and venison heavy the night we ate there, not a steak or chicken in sight.

I'm glad we tried V&A's once, now we know not to bother in teh future. (We also had service problems which didn't add to an already stressful situation over the menu...just not a good experience at all.)

I'd save the money and do TWO nights out for the prie of one at CG! Go to Jiko one night and the CG the other--you won't regret it :)

California Grill is good, they do have steak and pork type stuff with only a little "frou frou". Or, if you are really steak and potatoes people, I would highly recommend Yachtsman's Steakhouse or Le Cellier in Canada. The best meat and potatoes places at DW, I think.

I do not think you would like V&A at all. It is adventurous dining, and very expensive. I liked it, but for the price I would probably not do it again, unless it was the Chef's table...that would be cool!

Chef's Table $120/person - food only
in Restaurant $90/person - food only

There is, of course, additional charges for wine, as well as tax and gratuity.

I have not been to V&A and we are considering it for February.

As for CG - it is wonderful. A seat by the window overlooking MK is not easy to come by, but worth the wait!

enjoy!

V&A Definitely Frou Frou

The menu changes daily, but to give you a feel here's what we had the night we went.

Seared Ahi Tuna
Don't remember cold appetizer, was some sort of chicken
Mushroom Ravioli with Foie Gras
Duck Consomee (him) and Potato Leek Soup (me)
Filet Mignon (him) and Breast of Pheasant stuffed with Crab (me)
A cheese and fruit plate, fruit had been poached in burgundy
Grand Marnier Souffle (him) and Kona Chocolate Souffle (me)
Truffles

It was all amazing, but we are fairly adventurous eaters.

V&A is my favorite restaurant at WDW. BUt it certainly isn't for everyone and from what I read in your post, it probably isn't for you. I think you and DH will have a much better time at CG.
That said, tho the portions at V&A are "small", there are many courses, so you wind up being very comfortably full.
I think Ducklites menu experience was unusual--I went over my collection of V&A menus and found that Filet of beef (or Filet Mignon in some form or other) was on every one of them. But also were the "frou frou":) items like Skate, Pheasant, and Emu.
