in your den/livingroom? :confused3
When you walk into the front door, there is a tile entry. To the right is the hallway that leads to the bedrooms and it is tiled. To the left is the diningroom/office, it is carpeted. straight ahead is the living room (some people call it the den)...the kitchen is off the living room. We have already tiled the hall and are going to tile the kitchen....do you think we should tile the living room as well, or just get new carpet? we have 2 kids ds10 & dd6, plus 1 dog and 1 cat.

ok......discuss..............

Hmmm,

We have laminate in the living room and hallway that leads to the bedrooms.

We have tile in the kitchen and are putting tile in the bathrooms.

IMO, I would do laminate or carpet and still tile the kitchen.

Can you post some pictures?

We did a dark cherry laminate and a really nice 18 inch tile in the kitchen that looks great (and also blends well with the laminate as they sit next to eachother.)

DH originally wanted to tile the living room but we have an 11 month old and the thought of her running around on tile scared me.

Good luck. :thumbsup2

We are going to tile the kitchen....and the hallway and baths are already done. I'm just not sure what to do in the livingroom.
It is a 14 in tile....and I really like how it looks in the hall and baths. I also know it will look good in the kitchen....I was just wondering if doing it in the den would be overkill? I'm afraid to put carpet in there because of the wear and tear and how crappy it looks over time.....
Also, I have had people tell me that laminate shows wear also. I plan on being in this house for at least another 5+ years, so I would like it to last.

:confused3 i'm losing sleep over this!!!

It does kind of sound like it could be overkill but i can't tell for sure unless I'm there.

Do you want me to come over for a decorating consult? :teeth:

Our laminate is guaranteed for 25 years. If a peice is damaged, we can start at the nearest wall, pop it out and replace it.

Are you going to use the same tile throughout the house? We are doing a sisal carpet in 2 of the bedrooms and I like it so much, I wish that we had it in the living room. I tried to keep the different materials to a minimum so the house wouldn't look chopped up.

Maybe DH can show me how to post a photo later.

What color is the tile?

The tile is a greyish/greenish w/ gold/copper in it......kinda hard to describe. :scratchin
I'll try to post a pic when I get home from work.

Hey, you're in Florida....how about if i just come there for the consult??!! :thumbsup2

First pic is coming in through the front door...straight across into the living room.....

tile or not....that is the question. (please no flames on my crappy 7 yr old carpet)

second pic is of the tile....much nicer in "real life".

Personally, I hate carpet. My husband did floor-covering for a living in a former life (LOL), and you would not believe how nasty that stuff really is! Blech!

I would vote for a Pergo-type wood laminate or tile. Since it is a living/dining area, I'd go with the laminate wood. I think it'd look great with the tile! Plus, you could always add a rug?

Good luck making your decision! :)

I love the tile you have. If you were getting the same tile I say go for it.

It would be the same tile throughout....and using big rugs to break it up.
That's the thought process right now....just still debating the issue.

I would go tile or Travertine. I have been in the house almost 1 year...brand new spec house.

The dogs have completely ruined the laminate wood. I would go Pergo, tile, travertine or something like that.

You can always buy a rug to put down over the tile.

Can I say I hate my laminate, it is pretty, but it is ruined in shorter time than our carpet.

But I thought that Pergo WAS laminate??? :confused3

It looks like you can see right into that carpeted room when you walk in the front door. In that case, I would probably do tile. It would make it seem bigger and not chopped right there at that doorway. Does that make sense? I know what I want to say in my head but it just doesn't sound right when I read it.

Can you still get the same tile?

I took pictures of our tile against the carpet and floor but I can't figure out how to post them.

Yeah, I can still get the tile....we just installed this on Saturday! LOL

If you go to http://photobucket.com it's pretty easy. (i think that's the site....

It is but people swear that dog nails don't scratch it...:confused3 I wonder if that is true.

I was told that it does scratch and shows wear after a period of time. But I've never had it, so I don't know for sure..... :confused3

Love tile, hate carpet (your tile looks much like mine, but mine has less gold tones). I have all put two small bedrooms in my house tiled or hardwood (hallways and kitchen are hardwood - previous owner) I tiled the family room, living room, dining room, master bed/bath. My office still needs to be done - I pulled the carpet, and right now just have area rugs on the concrete floor, but the carpet was disgusting. Guest room and DDs room are newly carpeted, but I don't think I will be keeping it long.

I love the tile you chose!

I would, personally, do wood laminate or hardwood (places like lumber liquidators often offer it cheaper or just as cheap as laminate) in the living room only because I can't get past tile being in wet areas only =) I have a friend that put tile throughout the house and it looked nice and seamless, I just prefer a change in flooring from place to place. Just personal preference.

I would NOT do carpet again. You will def have to replace that before you sell while with wood, laminate, or tile you could make it last much longer. I love our berber but I am anxious to replace the living areas with wood.

I have been told that laminate wear depends on the brand. You would have to do research adn find one with a great warranty. It shouldn't tear up really easily.

Thanks....I like the tile too...it looks sooooo good compared to the carpet!!
I am going to put new carpet in the bedrooms, but that's it.
I think I'm going to do the tile.........

Ok...we are in the process of changing all of our floors.

We have the tile foyer to the right is the living room (24x15) and we are getting a new carpet. We had icky floors and had ceramic tile put down last week. Next week the ceramic tile is going in the 2 baths. We are, also, getting our carpet torn up and putting laminate down in the dining room. We wanted hardwood, but with 3 dogs and a 4 year old...laminate made more sense for us.

Next year we are going to put laminate in our bedroom (which is the same size as living room.
