Dh wants to get central vac.... do you have it or know anyone who does?? Do they like it?? I'm thinking I'm gonna love it, but it's a lot of money... :earseek:

We have central vac but I usually use my upright vac. I hate dealing with that long hose!

Yes, the hose is a pain. That's why DH does the vacuuming! A friend suggested I should have just invested in 2 vacuums - one upstairs and one downstairs.... but DH swears the suction is better with central vac.

I like the dust-vac that installs in the baseboard that is connected to the central vac - I use it all the time. It's in the breakfast nook where we mainly eat. Very convenient.

My parents have it but I think they used it once. They prefer their upright. My Father says he wish he spent the money on central air instead.

My parents had it in the last house they built.

Never again. The hose was a pain! It rubs against the baseboards, corners, etc. My Mom hated hauling that long hose around.

When dh built our house he was bent on having it. He kept saying it would be good for resale value. Now, mind you he never vacuums. I'd rather have an upright as the hose is a pain, and the power head is a pain, imo. Even the lady that cleans for us a couple times a month is not a fan of it.

I'd say forget it and spend your money some place else.

It is a pain. The system isn't very big, and the suction isn't very strong, so it is of no use on carpet. It does fine on the tile. I have been in other homes where it is a really nice addition. Those homes have an outlet in every room ( therefore you don't need the really long hose) and the vac system seemed pretty big.

Mine is just a hassle.... :confused3

I had it in a place we used to rent. Of course, I never had the hose, etc! Just a hole in the wall I had to tape shut so my kids would stop letting it suck up their toys! :)

Guess I will be the sole person who says that I loved mine in my last house. Much quieter than an upright, less hassle, no cord. You either deal with a cord and a heavy vacuum, or you deal with the hose from the central vac. Even trade if you ask me. I had good suction on mine, and the canister was in the garage, so it was easy to empty. I would love to have another one.

We have central vac and use it almost every night after dinner - (kids make crumbs) :rotfl2: - We don't use it much for carpet though - DW loves her Rainbow vac and will not use anything else.

We have central vac here too. I like it. I use it about everyday at the main floor and once a week upstairs and finished basement.

I like especially that all the smelly air goes right outside our backyard.

We had our central vac for about five years and I'm happy.

I LOVE my central vac! Mine has great suction, the house was built in 2001, so maybe it's newer. They are also suppose to be better for those with allergies (ds is very allergic to lots of stuff). It all gets sucked up and out to the garage instead being stirred around in the unit that is still in the house.

I like it fine enough but don't find it any easier or harder than lugging out the upright. Our suction is pretty good, especially on the hardwood floors. With a big, hairy Lab it's pretty much used all the time.

I'm not a fan of our central vac either. I agree with the others who said that dragging the hose around is a pain.

All I have are hardwood floors, no carpets. We have a lot of allergies and a dog so there are a lot of "dust bunnies" floating around here. Right now I HATE dragging the vacuum up and down the stairs, especially to do the stairs.
