Central Europe...Prague, Salzburg, Vienna

If you check out the Trip Report Sticky at the top of this Forum, there are two great Trip Reports for this itinerary. One by RSM and one by Calfan.

Sayhello

As Sayhello mentioned, I did a trip report for the July 5 trip. I am happy to try to answer any specific questions you might have. This was our second ABD.

Thanks! I do have a couple of questions already....I am terrified of heights...is that a problem in the Ice cave or Salt Mine? I also don't really want to crawl thru a cave....does that come up???

The rest looks fabulous!

Hi there. I was on the July 5 trip with Calfan and agree that it was an amazing trip (except the weather we had in parts, but ABD can't help that). I am also afraid of heights and it did not stop me from any of the activities. When we were in the gondola going up to the ice cave I did not look down too much. There were some staircases in the Ice Cave (staircases freak me out a bit) but they all had handrails (bring gloves) and would not have been too bad if I did not have my clumsy son right behind me bumping into me. The Ice Cave is a big cavern so there is no crawling through it. Some parts of it are as big as an auditorium. The Salt Mine is also a fairly large space. The only part that was a little enclosed was the initial ride into the mine on the train - it just felt like riding on a Disney ride through a tunnel (Calfan has a great picture which includes my kids looking absolutely thrilled to be going in). Absoultely don't let either of these activities scare you off. They are both cool experiences and not too scary even for chickens like me. The hike to the Ice Cave could be too much for some people (we had a two or three older or with health issues) sit it out but most people were fine with it as the walking is broken up into manageable bits.

Any more questions, we would both be happy to help.

Hilary

Life Calfan said, don't look down when you are in the gondola. You'll be fine. Facing backwards may also help (that is what someone on our trip that was afraid heights did).

There is nothing in the salt mine to be afraid (height-wise); I'm slightly claustrophobic and I did have some minor issues when we were in the heart of the mine, but I kept them to myself as no one else seemed to be bothered.

Be sure to mention any issues you think you may have to your guides and they will make sure you are well taken care of!

It is an amazing trip. I booked our next ABD (Australia, June 24th) within 2 weeks of arriving home!

Thank you all for your help! This will be our 2nd ABD and Our Italia Guides took care of us very well! My only problem now is the LONG wait until it starts!!!! Looked thru your pics Calfan...will read the Trip Report after we get back!!! Ice Cave stairs don't look too daunting....how many people fit into a Gondola?

I can't remember exactly how many fit in a gondola, but quite a few (at least 8 or 10).

There are 2 small seats in the lower corners of the gondola. If you let the guides know you have a fear of heights they will make sure you get one of these seats where you can avoid the view. :)

Thanks much for the tip! I'll look at DH's pics when I'm Not dangling!
