Last night I noticed that our central air control panel said "filter" on the left hand side. Now, I don't know if thats been there right along or not. We rent, and I really don't know how to use the control panel more than to change the temp. Does anyone now what this means? I just changed the filter and its new. Any ideas?:confused3 I'm kind of worried that something is wrong with it, but it is still working, so am I just being paranoid?

Most thermostats will show filter ever so many weeks to remind you to change the filter. Mine has a filter button that you have to hold down to reset the timer and the filter alert goes off. The thermostat has no idea you changed the filter so it doesn't just go off if you change it.

thank you - I will go check ours for that now!

Personally, for me, if I'm renting, that means it's time to call the landlord. ;)

Seriously, if the filter needs to be changed, it can be causing the AC to run less efficiently, which means you're paying more in electric bills. It's the landlord's responsibility to keep everything up to date and in working order.
