My locked front door! And, before you flame me, I have already turned in my census. What on earth is up with this dude??

I wouldn't like that either. We had one come to the house and grill my teen DD about our neighbor when I wasn't home. I didn't think too much of that :confused3.

I think he has a major problem and has some "splainin to do Lucy". Oh wait, weren't we told the these workers were so trust worthy, yeah right,

Oh yes, I had a census lady last week. She was SO rude and really rubbed me the wrong way right off the bat.

She would ask me questions (that were on the form) and when I answered her she asked, "Are you sure that's correct?" (She asked how many people lived here on 1 April). I said "Yes, this is MY house and I DO know how many people live here!" She then asked me if I was telling the truth!!!

I then told her that it was time for her to leave because she had NO authority to question my honesty.

Now I had a really nice guy show up at work (my bosses home).

I'm starting to think I should have called the police. You can't just turn someone's doorknob and try to walk in their home.

Call the police- there were a couple arrested in our state- One for sexual assault and others for theft.

Call you'll feel better!

Odd. We had a census worker here a couple of weeks ago. She couldn't have been nicer or more professional.

I think that most are fine but like any workplace, you get a few weirdos.

Id call the police as well. Even if it's nothing, at least it should make them aware of people who might be going around posing as census workers in order to gain access to people's houses.

I can't imagine a census worker attempting to enter someone's home! I have two friends who are census workers and they clearly know that is not permitted :scared1:

Well, I reported him to the census bureau. Haven't called the police yet. And, I slept with ALL the lights on last night.

They hired over 600,000 people, so some of them will be less than stellar, or even dangerous. Their screening process catches most of the applicants with a history, but not every bad egg has been caught, so some wouldn't have a "history". You did the right thing to call the Census Bureau.

We had a real estate agent do this to us last winter. We had purchased the home and he was angry that we had brought his huge errors to the attention of his clients. He attempted to bring us a $100 microwave as a token of his apology and we rejected it as it was nothing close to what he had cost us out of pocket with his unprofessional behavior. So, he decided to attempt to enter our home while yelling how ungrateful we were. My husband is 6'5", 240 and all muscle but peaceful. He was headed for the door when I intercepted him and told the guy I was calling the police. Had he not left, I WOULD have called the police. If a census worker attempted to enter my house, I'd call the cops for sure.

Did he knock first? Did you answer it and tell him that you've already sent the form in?

I saw through the peephole it was a census worker and didn't answer. I have already done my duty filing my census form. I don't answer the door to strangers, including census workers.

Regardless, neither one of the questions you asked would change the fact that he tried to enter my home unlawfully.

exactly,
just because someone knocks on the door doesn't mean we have to answer it.
I don't open the door to strangers either, census or not.

Any chance he thought you lived in a duplex? My son delivers papers and sometimes it's hard to tell which houses are houses, and which are duplexes. There's several houses where he actually has to go in through the front door, in order to get to the REAL front door.

Our new mailman made that mistake at our house, because we have double doors, so it kind of looks like there's another door behind our front door. I found him standing in the foyer looking very confused with our mail in his hand. He apologized a whole lot, gave me my mail, and never made that mistake again.

Occasionally Christmas packages get dropped off inside the door, too. I'm never sure if that's a mistake, or if they're trying to make sure the packages don't get stolen off our porch... :confused3

My self, my boss, and his son have been plagued by census workers. We each sent our forms in within a day of getting them, but each of us has had home visits and calls asking us the same questions. ugh. I was told by one that they didn't get our forms in time. :headache:

Does it look like the front door? Could he have thought it was a door to a porch or entryway that would result in another real front door? I don't know what your house looks like.

Do you have a doorbell he didn't ring?

Scary indeed.

ETA: Sorry, didn't see someone suggested same thing about the door.

And my DH wonders why I keep the door and the screen door locked even when I'm home. If I open decide to open the door after looking in the peep hole, I at least still have a locked screen door between us to give me a little time to slam the door shut if need to.

Neither of those things matter at all. You can't just open someone's door without permission, whether you knock first or not. And the OP is never obligated to open her door just because someone knocks on it.

OP, you did the right thing by reporting him.
