Now that Verizon is offering IPhone I think I am going to take the plunge but can't make up my mind.

I Phone versus Droid - which is better and why?

This is a huge jump for me - I currently have an LG env2 with no data plan so all I do is text, talk and take bad pictures:lmao:

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!

You sound like me! Our contract is about to expire and we are due for new phones with Verizon. I really had no interest in the data plan. But I was just looking at Verizon phones this week, and all of the phones that I like now require a data plan. It wasn't that way 2 years ago. So, if I'm going to be stuck with a data plan, I want to pick the right phone. It's so hard to decide.

Neither, for us. We dumped Verizon and went with AT&T, so we could get the (specific) Windows Phone (that we wanted). The Windows Live integration was a major factor, being able to have my calendar everywhere, including on my phone natively, all the time. Also, integration with Zune and Xbox Live, services that we've been using for years and months, was also very important to us.

DS the college kid says Droid hands down.

For the area we live in Verizon has the best coverage. I asked DS the other day if he wanted the iPhone or the Droid - he is not a fan of the iPhone, says his friends have lots of problems.

If you already have an iPod and use iTunes, you might want to go with the iPhone simply because it can sync to your iTunes library.

Android phones CAN sync your iTunes music, as far as I know, but only through third-party software called doubleTwist.

If you don't use iTunes or don't want your music on your phone, you might want to consider a phone with the Android operating system, especially one that has 4G. The Verizon iPhone will not support 4G, so download rate would not be as fast as it would with other phones. Although 4G is only available in some areas right now with Verizon anyway.

I am in same boat as you are. I am considering the iPhone, but might do with something running Android.

Also Verizon is running a special right now about upgrading to a smartphone. You can get a plan for two smartphones for $69.99/month on a two year contract. You pay for data but NOT for voice. Unfortunately, the deal expires1/30, and the iPhone doesn't start on preorder until Feb 3, so I'm not sure if you could get an iPhone.

Oooo...perfect timing!!!

Our DS17 has been using a "free" mobile phone as a perk from work, but we are losing that perk at the end of February. He has an LG rumor and would like a smart phone. We currently have a family plan with AT&T that has 2 iphone3, 2 iphone4 and one non smart phone. We cannot add a 6th phone to this plan.

For our area, AT&T has great coverage and they have the best nationwide coverage, but I would to hear what people think of the new Verizon iphones. BIL has a droid but he thinks Steve Jobs is the antichrist and his opinion is a bit jaded!

I would love to hear what people think about their smart phones and their plans!

They both have pros and cons, personally I'd go with Droid because they are more open source then Apple. Apple is very controlling in terms of software and I'm not a big fan of that style.

It is a toss up really, they each excel in their own ways. I have had both, (currently I have Droid X). Now that iPhone is on Verizon the whole Droid winning the network competition is canceled out. This has been my experience as a user of both.

The good stuff:

Droid X... superior camera, more customizable, easy to drag and drop files from any computer.

Has room for upgrades and easily (and a lot cheaper replace battery).

iPhone...media player iTunes syncs perfectly. You have an iPod that will serve as a phone too. You can also use it as an AppleTV remote. A ton of accessories available.

The bad stuff:

Droid X... media player sync is awkward, but do-able. It can be synced with iTunes and preserve your playlists, but it requires a separate software download and all that. Using a Mac, iTunes is my only media player so I had to download DoubleTwist and do it that way. If you had Windows might be easier to sync with a different software.

iPhone...no memory upgrade, what you have is what you have. Battery is an expensive thing to replace and probably tough to impossible to DIY. More likely than not you would have to send it off to Apple or some other place you trust and spend a lot of money. Also, as far as I know you cannot easily exchange files between your phone and other computers, your phone is pretty much married to whichever computer your iTunes is on. (as far as I know).

The other issues up to the individual user if it's good or bad...

Size, the Droid X is bigger, the whole issue of Apps (I am not an app person) but a lot of people seem to have strong feelings for each side on the Apps. iPhone has a lot of apps, but they all have to be "apple approved" for lack of a better term, unless you do jailbreak.

That's all I can think of right now.

I'm also just thinking of upgrading. My cell phone right now is for talking only..but I want to text more with the grands and use it online, so I'm looking at the Iphone, after seeing several friends.

I'm confused about the above. Verizon doesn't support 4G, yet it's only available in some areas with Verizon? I don't understand.

What is the diff between AT & T and Verizon's IPhone? I would like to stick with Verizon, since most of my family is on Verizon, so we don't use minutes to talk, although I like AT & T's roll over minutes.
