Cell phone use in parks

what is *228?
thanks

Someone correct me if I am wrong.... but *228 is a function on you phone to update you phone for the area you are in. Helps you pick up new towers and stuff.

That is correct! Updates your roaming capabilities.

Ummm...Yes...I am clueless. My DH just informed me that we have T-Mobile. I have no idea why I didn't know that!
LOL! Well, if anybody *does* go down there soon and still has AT&T Wireless, we had no problems at all with reception, in the rooms or parks. Didn't try it on the rides. :teeth:

Suncom works well, as does Alltel in the parks. I had same problems in the moderate rooms but got full signal outside.

My ATT(now Cingular) worked great in December. :goodvibes

to add to the list, my cheapy little Pay as you go Virgin Mobile worked fine down there, too. I had to call my DH from Cosmic Ray's and it worked perfectly. Actually I had more bars in Disney and in the hotel than I do here at home. lol

My family has Verizon. It worked pretty well, just be sure you're not roaming. Also, I had trouble getting reception in our room at Pop Century, but if I left the door open it worked fine.

Nextel user here. Never found an area that I didn't have reception. It's kinda' nice having that press-to-talk feature there.

My party all used Verizon in July-service was fine. Never had a problem in any of the parks or hotel (WL). I don;t how anyone ever did Disney without cell phones. :cool1:

I am so glad this post is here. I had the same questions about cingular (previously AT&T) service.

We were thinking of bringing the walkie talkies. I know that a ton of people do that and you get alot of other people on your channels. Nice to know I can leave them home and bring the cells!

If the roaming charges apply - would cingulars free mobile to mobile override that? We all will have cingular with the free mobile to mobile.

Also, does the *228 thing cost anything? It has been listed here as *228 and #228, which one is it?

Thanks!
Val

We just got back and had no trouble with Cingular. Worked just about every time we needed it. And if it didn't, the text messaging worked 100% of the time.

Not sure if the M2M will cover roaming. I'd check with Cingular first instead of getting a huge bill.
