I am in desperate need of a new phone, I have been eyeing up the Droid (one with the keyboard). In fact for my birthday 2 weeks ago I asked for money to buy the new phone in July when I am eligible to "upgrade". That has been my plan for the last 5-6 months, however the Walmart ad has the Droid for 49.95! My question to you is.....

Can I go to Walmart buy the Droid for that price then have my number and service transefered to the new phone?

You have to qualify for a new upgrade or sign a new two year contract. Which would make you end up with a new number..

But iit may be poosible to call Verizon and see if they can let you upgrade early. Last year we upgraded our phone six weeks before we were suppose to be able to. It really depends on how good of a customer you are and how decent the supervisor on duty is.
I've been a Verizon customer since they began and i've upgraded a few times before i was do to. They are usually really helpfull.

It doesnt hurt to ask.

Good luck

I thought you got to keep your number? When we went to a family plan, we were able to take my son's t-mobile number and transfer to sprint. We had thirty days to do it.

Ask if you are eligible for an early upgrade. Hubby used our upgrade last November (worked hounded him to get a blackberry). When I paid the bill last month, next to all of our phones were hyperlinks saying we were eligible for $150 toward an upgrade. I think when hubby upgraded it was $200.

You get to keep your number usually. But this person wants to upgrade an exsisting verizon contract, but if they are not eligible yet they can only upgrade at full price or the other option is to sign a new contract which would give them a new number, because they are not elligible for a upgrade on the other line yet.

But if you buy the phone at Walmart when you are eligible for the upgrade, you will get to keep your number, it's the same as upgrading at Verizon, only the phone is cheaper. When my dd was due for an upgrade she got the ENV3 at Target for free, took 5 minutes, the same phone at Verizon was $69.99.

I've been looking into a new phone myself and there's something called an Annual Upgrade. It *says* if you're already 1 year into a 2 year contract, you can get the promotional price if you re-sign a new 2 year contract. I haven't done it personally, but it's something that I'm going to do if it's for real!

It is for real, they told me the same when I was in there a month or so ago. I thought I only had 2 upgrades coming, as the one phone was on the new every two plan, but he said we could upgrade that one too, after 1 year.

Oh that's awesome. My phone is the secondary on the plan, so I don't get a new every 2... so I definitely need the special 2-year price!

Definitely check into upgrading early....we've been able to do that a number of times with Verizon.

Do NOT buy a new Droid until next month.

The new Droid is coming in July. Droid X being launched mid July.

It is twice as fast as the original Droid, HD video camera, much larger screen, and does not have a keyboard. If you absolutely need the keyboard, the Droid 2 will launch at Verizon a few weeks after Droid X.

Check the Verizon website to see when you can upgrade. If you go to Walmart you won't be able to use your New Every 2 discount which is either an extra $50 to $100 off the price depending on your current plan.
