I am sure I am stating the obvious to some people, but while on vacation my son got water in his cell phone on one of the rides. LUCKILY I had read somewhere perhaps on here that you should if you have one bring an old deactivated cell phone just in case. My husband did this and it cost us only 20.00 to activate it with Verizon rather than over a 100 to buy a new one. Luckily we had a month left to the contract so my son was able to use the old phone until he could get a new one for free. I know lots of people do this but it had not occured to me until I read it somewhere. If you are at the parks or even a resort with kids or teens and they have some independence then you know a cell phone is important just to keep track of things...like your sainity.

I never thought of this, I have brought ziploc bags to put our phones and camera in if we are on a water ride but I had'nt thought of bringing an old phone, I'm surprised they verizon charge you to activate the phone you can do this on your on when calling but I have also used a customer service person and they did'nt charge me. Thanks for the tip. Linda :)

My adult son learned the hard way when he "lost" his I Phone ($500 a couple of months after they came out). Yikes. He replaced it while he was there and about a month after he came back, he lost that one. Needless to say, he decided that all the beels and whistles don't mean a thing if you keep loosing them :confused3

My DD dropped her cell phone in the bathtub and in the toilet. Both times it was in her hoodie pocket and fell out. She also dropper her boyfriends cell phone in the creek behind our house. They still work. The key is to immediately remove the battery and then put it in a container of rice for a couple days. The rice draws the moisture out.

Great hint!:thumbsup2

I have done this several times with Verizon and have never had to pay a fee.....
