I have an iphone. My kids use it all the time to either play games or to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes. I would love to use it at Disney to help with long lines but I don't want my phone to die half way through the day either.
Anyone know how to keep it charged? I have seen at the Apple store where they wear what looks like a charger around their neck but I have no idea how long it charges etc.
What do you do?

I have two of THESE. They work just great, and cost very little.

You can search for more sellers on eBay (I don't know anything about the seller that I posted above... just an example) by searching for "external iPhone battery."

I don't know about portable battery packs, but you can do a couple of things to extend the battery life.

First and foremost, you can dim the display brightness. You could also turn off WiFi completely, as there are no places in the parks to pick it up anyway. I've read that constantly searching for WiFi is a big drain on the battery and my own experience seems to back that up. And if you don't need it as a phone, you could go the full monty and just put it in Airplane mode.

We use the Mophie Juice Pack (for the iPhone 4) and love it. We also had a Mophie Juice Pack Air for our previous versions (iPhone 3G and 3Gs). While they are bulkier than a traditional case, they work well.

We have had mobile chargers in the past but unfortunately none of ours work with our iPhone 4s. So last trip, after my phone died by 3 PM one day, we took our charging block / plug & cord in our backpack. I stopped at a random plug in an attraction in World Showcase and charged up for 10 minutes or so, then we were also able to charge at a few restaurants when we just happened to be seated close to a wall plug. Perhaps not the ideal approach, but it worked in a pinch.

I never had problems with my iPhone @ the World before, but we were using Gowalla and always checking in to things, so that use took a lot more juice than normal. When I wasn't doing that, my phone battery usually lasted a whole day (but not RD to close day, more like RD to dinner time).

...you'd be surprised at the number of places you'll find outlets where you can grab a snack, take a seat, and let your phone get a quick charge in.

I also have seen this around a lot, but never talked to anyone who has one. You can you-tube the product and see some reviews.

Couple questions...

If you have used the external battery pack...after you charge your phone with it is the external dead or can you use it a few times to charge your phone back up?

To follow up on what Mesaboy said, my Iphone constantly showed the WDW encrypted wifi -- which of course I couldn't use, but the Iphone was repeatedly finding and indicating. I turned off wifi while in the parks, and the battery lasted much longer.

It uses up its charge when it charges the phone.

That's why I bought more than one.

For about $15 each (including shipping) it's hard to go wrong.

Silly question...can you recharge them? Just plug them in and you can use them again to charge your phone?

Silly question...

1- can you recharge them?

2- Just plug them in and you can use them again to charge your phone?

1- Yes.

2- You just connect them to your regular iPhone charger.
The batteries have a string of status lights that illuminate as the battery charges.

To charge more than one battery (and/or the iPhone, itself) at the same time, I bought extra iPhone charger cords.

Again, very, very cheap (under $5 each) on eBay.

Here are some stats for the nPower PEG:

- 1 minute of walking provides approximately 1 minute of listening time on an iPod Nano
- 11 minutes of walking provides approximately 1 minute of talk time on an iPhone 2G
- 26 minutes of walking provides approximately 1 minute of talk time on an iPhone 3G

And with the Retina screen and processor on the iPhone 4, im assuming that would require a longer charge then the 3G. So if im reading that correctly every 2 hours of walking will give you about 4 minutes of a charge.

But you can also plug the PEG in and charge it for portable power.

You can also go to Guest Relations in any of the parks with your phone and charger and leave it with them for an hour or 2. I've heard outlets are hard to come by in the parks.

Just wanted to state that outlets are everywhere! My mother has an electric wheelchair, and we were always able to charge it during our counter service meals with no problem. There are even outlets outside near benches! :)

i use the crap out of my iphone. More than most people. I have never had a problem not making it a full day on a charge.

turn brightness down to 50% (but in sun that may not work)
only get email 1x an hour not every 15 mins
turn off wifi when not using it
turn off location services you are not using

at the end of the day you may be down to 10%, but your phone still works just as good as 100%

do you have iPhone 3g or 4? I have 4 and my BF has 3 and we find my battery lasts much longer than his, and we use it about the same. I use the WDW apps when in the park and I'm always using the camera. When waiting or eating, I'll check facebook and emails, etc. So I use it a fair amount during the day and I never find mine dies. There's a good chance your kids won't be watching videos and stuff in the park too, so you can charge when you're in the hotel or at a restaurant. I charged mine in the POR food court while eating before I left and it worked out perfectly :thumbsup2

I'm a big fan of the zagg sparq. www zagg dotcom (sorry boards won't allow me to post links yet)

You can charge 2 devices at once, 6000 mAh, does iPad, all iPhones, and a ton of other stuff. You can get 20% off if you use the code LUVUSPARQ. Just got an email the other day. ;)

Is your battery life on your iPhone that bad?? How old is it?

A couple of things. If it's within your 1-year period, you need to go have them look at it. Even with a lot of use, you should at least get a full day's worth of battery life.

Another thing you can do is "close down" anything you're not using. I've found that I've inadvertently left Skype and Facebook running and that drains the battery. Also, shut off the WiFi so it's not constantly searching for it. You can also change the PUSH for your e-mail so that you have to manually do it.

If that doesn't help, make sure your updates are current, and then my try a hard reboot.

Really, you shouldn't have to worry about your battery not lasting that long.

I disagree about the battery life issue. Even with wifi/push turned off I can easily burn through a charge in less than a half day, especially if I'm taking pics and videos. Not to mention the fact that my two kids are constantly asking to use it for games and netflix. Hopefully at Disney they will have other things to keep their minds on :)

It's not a defective phone.

I suppose you can turn the brightness down low, but too low makes the phone unusable in daylight. Best way to go IMHO is a battery backup of some kind.
