OK, so Mom & I share a cell phone account...both of our cars have the old analog phone-based OnStar system, we've had them since 1998.
I get our phone bill. It is for only $9.77 - usually about $49. I call Cingular. Their automated system shows a current balance of $54+. I finally get a rep, she asks for my SS# for verification - it didn't match - I give her Mom's social - it didn't match?!! So then the rep asks if I know Rhonda somebody - I say "No" - evidently this person has a cell number ONE digit different from mine, and had a problem with her account and wanted it broken down so each number billed separately. They transferred MY phone number to Rhonda's ss#, but still under my name & billing address with a separate - more expensive account. Now I understand how folks can hit a wrong key - but you'd think they'd have crossed referenced the social sec # AND the name on the account. So, the rep says she's re-combined the the account and billed us our normal monthly fee. We'll see what happens next month.
