We have planned our first DVC trip which will be at our home OKW for Thanksgiving week 2002. This trip is celebrating my children's 4th birthday which is actually December 27. (twins - boy/girl). What is offered for this type of event at DW? Do they prepare anything special? Do I mention this at the front desk at OKW, or do I let them know now in advance?

You can mention it. However, I wouldn't count on receiving anything. Some people on the boards have reported getting balloons, cards, etc. My experience for several landmark celebrations (16th birthday, 50th Anniversary, 40th Birthday, etc.) has been no acknowledgement. You will usually get a desert with a candle in a restaurant if you mention the birthday.

We let them know it was our 8th anniversary at OKW when we checked in and on the day of our anniversary, we had balloons and a card signed from Beauty and the Beast. It was a nice suprise :)

Make sure if you go to MK on their birthday that you stop by city Hall and ask for birthday buttons. Many CM's commented and wished my DD(6) a happy birthday, It made her feel really special. Also I would recommend a Character Dinner at Chef Mickeys if you can swing it. DD got an it's my birthday placemat, a cupcake brought to her by Mickey and he stood by her when they sang the Birthday song. It is an awesome place to spend a Birthday!

We have done two birthdays now at OKW. I have called the desk and asked if they could do anything for the birthdays. My kids got balloons with a birthday card autographed by their favorite characters delivered to the villa on the birthday.

Make sure do you do a character meal for your birthday celebration; usually they bring a cupcake with a candle for the birthday person and announce the birthday to the restaraunt. We did my DS's at Teppanyaki in May, and they brought out a small cake, enough to give everyone a piece at our table.

If you are going to do a birthday privately and are searching for a cake, I would not try Olivia's. They were going to charge $48.00 for one which included balloons, plates, etc.(I asked if it served a lot of people, she said around 5, then I asked for that price if Mickey delivered it himself!). Get a cake at a grocery store!

We took both of our daughters to OKW fortheir 1st Birhdays. For our oldest daughter we mentioned that it was her birthday but didn't expect anything. We came back to the room and she had a signed Minnie photo and balloons. For our second daughters brithday I requested the same and told the cast member that I wanted to make sure that she got something also in fairness. Well her birthday passed and nothing came. The cast member assured me that he would personally take care of! Well a complaint to the front desk brought her balloons and picture right up. We also took our nieces to the BWV on their birthdays and they got nothing.

We were at OKW for my DGS's 6th birthday. I mentioned this when I made the reservations and several times during check in.
I went to Olivia's to order a birthday cake...they only had chocolate; expensive, too. The CM did call the Boardwalk Bakery for me; I ordered what I wanted and we went over to pick it up the next day. I think it was about $24. We took a cab back to OKW and had his party. Nothing was ever given to him by WDW, or Mickey! I was quite surprised that others have received birthday/ anniversary greetings/gifts.
