I know someone on/around here lives there. My Fiance and I are thinking about moving to the Orlando area in the fall/winter. I posted a thread earlier about Hunter's Creek, Metrowest and LBV. I got freak out about crime in those area's especially Metrowest. I am curious how Celebration is. How are the apartments? The town? Safety?

Thanks,

C

Good Grief! There is crime everywhere, unfortunately!
Celebration is very nice, however very pricey in apartments and home compared to an area like Hunters Creek and the others.

Personally, I don't think Celebration is worth the extra money just to live there.

I have no idea but I wanted to say that during last month's trip to WDW my dear sweet dad surprised with a little trip to Celebration! I have always wanted to see it (I've read a book about living there) and it was a neat as I dreamed it would be.

I took some pics but would you believe my camera lens didn't open all the way and so it messed my pics up?! I'm sure the residents hate people like me snapping pics all around.

Good luck on your search!

I had read a lot about Celebration too. So when I was in Orlando, I had to go see it. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! I loved the feeling I got walking around the town. I know it's expensive there, but I think it would be worth every penny. It felt like a community, which you don't get from a lot of places. I absolutely LOVED it!!:flower:

I haven't been in any other neighborhoods around Orlando though, so I'm not sure how they compare.

LScott- What was that book you read? I'd love to read it.

We live close to Celebration and spend a lot of time there shopping and eating at the restaurants. Our doctors and dentist are in Celebration as well.

I'll never forget the morning after we moved to Florida and it was around 7am. I went for a drive to explore the area and I ended up in Celebration. I had my car windows open and there was a young couple jogging. They shouted "Good Morning" and both waved! That is what Celebration is like!

Crime?? In Hunters Creek??? Not that I've seen....I've been here almost 4 years and have never heard of anything othen than an occasional car theft or a house burglary.

Last year, a DIS'er who used to be here on the DIS, teri, gave me a short walking/driving tour of the town. Very nice, pretty, quaint. We enjoyed a sidewalk lunch at one of the outdoor cafes, very enjoyable. As a resident, she did say the place does have its problems, just like any other community. It is pretty, unique, Disneyesque, though a bit too 'sterile' for me, nice for a visit.

Hey Tony.

Celebration is nice but remember there are lots of restrictions, even with the apartments due to the nature of the community. You have to use certain colors for curtains, can only put certain items in windows, some places even have restrictions of what can be seen from the street, so talk extensively with any apartment complex you are thinking of moving into about community rules.

The downtown area is really quaint. It is a great place to walk around and it has some wonderful resturants. Traffin in Celebrations can be annoying at times but not to bad...192 is worse. There is a new area at the entrance being built up with resturants, shops etc.

The apartments in Celebrations are some of the most expensive. And the school system is not as good as the one in Hunters Creek.

Since you are in the investigating phase, I would suggest you find out where your fiance's job will be located...given the traffic in the Orlando area, you might want to think about being somewhat close to where that is.

Ive visited Celebration, it looks really sweet.

We just looked around this past weekend at Hunters Creek. What a nice place! We spoke to some residents, apparently its a very popular area, very few homes for sale which tells me no one wants to leave it. We were told by residents that there is very little crime.

We fell in love with it and would strongly consider a home there, jmho

Davenport is another place you could visit

We drove through Celebration last year, it was so pretty!!! Are they still building new things there, or is it all done and you can only get resale now?? (We aren't looking to move there, I'm just curious.) :)

It looks expensive! What they did was take a midwestern subdivision (complete with trees like maples) and put it down in Florida! It does not seem to fit. Think high end Stepford! I can get that in Kansas City for cheaper.

We were there last month and there was one last phase left the sign said.

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I put these in because I finally read so fast that I broke the 60 second rule!!

I was thinking the exact same thing as in "Stepford Wives." Too perfect maybe? When I did see Celebration though, I told my DH that we should move there and get jobs at WDW. He said he couldn't handle it!

Wow, so after that people will have to wait for someone to move out! Better go buy one quick!:teeth:

Congrats on breaking the 60 second rule. lol

Liz, I just wanted to tell you that your boys are absolutely adorable!

I thought Stepford Wives too until my friend moved to Celebration and I visited her last June. It's a wonderful little community and they have parties where everyone comes out to enjoy each other's company. I would love to live there!

I just drove through Hunter's Creek two weekends ago on a discovery mission. I am contemplating moving to the area from South Florida where the public schools are marginal, at best. I thought Hunter's Creek was very nice and a little bit more affordable than Celebration with, what I am told, better schools because it's Orange County vs. Osceola County. The bartender at Victoria Falls in Animal Kingdom Lodge told me to check out Waterford Lakes in southeast Orlando. He says it takes him about 45 mins. to get to work, but it's worth it. His wife is a school teacher, and she says the schools are great around those parts.

DH and I looked at some homes and apartments in Celebration and Hunters Creek. We really loved Celebration but I think we missed out on the cheaper prices. Even a few months ago (6-7) condos were going for $172,000 (2 br 2 bath) on realtor.com, now they are $249,000! The house we really liked was $270,000 now it is probably well over $350,000. I wish we would have just gone earlier- but we were scared with the war/economy. We did not like Hunters Creek as much. It seemed to be in the middle of very busy roads. We will probably look there again though, Dr. Phillips, Windemere, and Clermont. We liked Clermont-looks like NH/MA. Lots of land with the homes.
