Celebrating our anniversary and going to WDW for the first time!

If you could only pick one, would go you to DAK or DHS?

Hello!

I'm new posting here, though I've been lurking for a couple of months both here and on the FB page. My husband & I are going to be celebrating our anniversary at WDW this year...and it's our first visit, too!

Is there anything that you would suggest is a "must do" for adults at Disney? My husband doesn't do the whole dressing up thing, so we'll be skipping V&A since he would be miserable. We're much more casual and wouldn't want to ruin anyone else's evening either by not dressing up and taking them out of that magical moment, so if there is a place that mandates a dress code, it's probably not for us!

We're staying at POFQ for 7 nights and have 5-day tickets (no park-hopper) and we're also planning to spend a day at Universal Orlando. We're actually flying in the night before we start our Disney vacation and crashing at any airport hotel so we can wake up bright & early and spend the day at a park.

Any suggestions? I'm certainly open for ideas. The only ADRs I have so far are one at Boma our first night (since I figured that would probably be a good day to go to DAK while we're waiting for our room to be ready, and maybe they'll have Rivers of Light actually going at that point so we can head back to DAK after dinner) and a lunch ADR at Be Our Guest on Saturday.

We fly into MCO on 2/1 and our WDW trip actually runs 2/2-2/9.

Thanks in advance!

:welcome:

And congratulations on your upcoming anniversary.

For your vote I would chose AK. It is a lovely park with much to see and do. The Lion King is arguably the best live show at WDW. Everest should satisfy your roller coaster needs. The Safari, the walking paths, and Flights of Wonder provide plenty of animal viewing. We love It's Tough to be a Bug. Consider the Flame Tree Barbecue in you need a meal in the park. Take your food down to the lower seating area next to the water.

Unless you are diehard Star Wars fans I would take AK over DHS anytime.

Don't worry about the dress up question, WDW is a kids vacation destination. Casual wear is the standard. Except, as you note, for V&A.

There are many "adult" experiences at WDW. Like the American Experience in World Showcase. But the real fun is just letting yourself go and enjoy the experience. Let your curious, inner child come out.

Wishing you a magical trip!

It depends on what you are into:
sports: golf, mini-golf, fishing, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc
shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls
drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area
movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meals served by waiters
night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk
resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, horse drawn tour of FWC, AKL/AKV
offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour

DW and I have done DCLs for our 15, 20, & 25th anniversaries.
My one suggestion, go to the parks for two days, take a day off, go to the park for two days, take a day, etc. This way you do not get worn out and not want to come back, builds in downtime to relax and not need a vacation from your vacation when you get back home.

I would vote for both parks. I honestly love AK, but HS is so unique with TOT and our favorite, TSM. It would be a shame to not visit one as they are both wonderful. Would it be possible to upgrade to a park hopper? I say this because a PH makes it much more relaxing and enjoyable for us to be able to do one park in the am, rest up a bit, and head to another in the pm. Some parks have emh which you might want to take advantage of, but really want to go to another park for something else the same day. Either way, congratulations .

Thanks for the advice, everyone! With all of the construction at HS right now, I think it would be more of a bummer for us, unfortunately. My husband & I aren't big fans of Toy Story, so TSM isn't high on our list, and Rock 'N Roller Coaster is one we're planning to stay away from 'cause he gets motion sick. We could always upgrade to a park hopper, but instead we might just use HS as an excuse to come back in a future year once Star Wars Land is complete.

CONGRATS and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Be sure to get an Annuvwrsary pin and perhaps take a special pix at AK to document ur visit. The special "surprise" pix are so special!
I think AK is a great choice. Enjoy!!

Thanks! What do you mean by a special "surprise" pix?

We've decided to go to Animal Kingdom on our first day. We'll also be spending two days each at MK and Epcot.
