My niece wanted to spend a day at Disney for her 9th bday gift, but it's not happening until a month after her birthday. Can we still request a Happy Birthday button for her (do they still do that??) and what other things can we ask for her or get for her to make it feel like it's a special day for her in honor of her birthday?

TIA.

I've done that before. My birthday is mid-November, went to Disney in early December and got a birthday button. I mainly went for all the Christmas stuff but it was also a belated gift to myself. You can definitely still get buttons. I know they also have some in-room celebrations if you'll be staying onsite, but they're kind of expensive. You can take a look at them here: http://disneyworld.disneyfloralandgifts.com/category/in-room+celebrations.do
You could also just bring some of your own balloons & stuff and set it up in the room yourself before she gets there or while she's out. I'm not too sure of other special things.

Yes you can get her a button and buy her any package you may want. There are a few "birthday surpise" packages through Disney floral wedding or you can tell any restaurant you want that you are celebrating her birthday and they may or may not do something. Most will bring out a candle in a dessert but again no guarantee unless you pay for a dessert.

Lots of people do that. Personal experience? Cms ask what your actual bday is and if its the same day you're there make a much bigger deal of it. That's completely experience based though.

A CM told me that as long as the event will take place either in the 6 months preceding or the 6 months immediately following your visit, you may wear a Celebration button. We have 3 birthdays that are very close together in our family and we visited during the week between them. (not on the actual birthday of anyone) All three kiddos wore Birthday Buttons and after dinner at CRT, when our desserts were served, all 4 kids in our group received free birthday cupcakes and the servers sang "Happy Birthday." We were very touched that they didn't leave the one "non-bday" child out of the cupcake and celebration.

You can request any pin you want at any time.

As far as anything special happening, other than tons of CMs wishing "Happy Birthday", there's not much else. You might get a birthday card at dinner if you eat in the park or possibly even a free desert, but that's just pixie dust

I'll have to look that one up in the "Official WDW CM Responses" handbook. It's probably in the "if you don't know, make it up" section.

I think it is a cute way of saying anyone can get one since 6 months preceding and 6 months following is a whole years span haha.

We use to give people unbirthday buttons when there was nothing else to do (the agent p attraction gets very slow). The things CMs can do with those buttons to pass the time can be really fun for the guests who get them later.

Yeah, you can get the buttons anytime. DD got one last year and it was roughly 3 weeks before her b-day (her twin brother is shy in getting that kind of attention, so he declined). It was crazy how many people wished her happy birthday!!

I've never had anyone ask what day a birthday falls on. Both DGD and I had our birthday celebrations at Disney. DGD was a few days before hers because of spring break and Easter, I was there on mine. DGD wore her button for the entire trip, I figured we were there celebrating her birthday for the entire trip so it fit. I wore mine for my birthday only. No one ever asked what day was our actual birthday, nor did they care really. As a CM cleverly told a PP, it's ok to celebrate for 6 months before and for 6 months after :) What they do to acknowledge that celebration is very random

No CM has ever asked me or any member of my family/traveling party what our ACTUAL birthday is while we were sporting our birthday pins. On our September trip I wore my birthday button (my birthday is in August). The trip was my gift and that was when we could feasibly go.

Typically wearers get wished Happy Birthday...quite a bit. Anything else is pixie dust 9and we've gotten our fair share of it)

Shoot yeah - celebrate your thing! I've celebrated freedom! I've just seen and had major pixie dust when the actual bday falls during a trip.

Do you have to go somewhere particular to get birthday buttons? Can you get them at check-in?

Any guest service location and ticket window will have them. We never stay on site so I'm not 100% sure but I believe the front desk at the Disney hotels has them also

disney dose not care if it is your actual Bday or not ( no one ask for ID of to prove it is your Bday) I would get her a button and let her wear it and she will get a lot of happy birthdays fromCM and guest and my be surprise or two ( I can not tell you because it is up to the CM at the time)
