We will be going to WDW in July and our first night we are eating at the Garden Grill. We will also be celebrating our dd 8th birthday. She wants a cake but I heard children decorate their own cupcakes for dessert. Is this true??? If it is true do you think they can stick a candle in the cupcake for her. Just wondering what would be better a cake or cupcake.

Can't wait only 20 days to go!!!!!!:hippie:

We just ate there a few days ago. The cupcake that dd got was yellow and it came with whipped cream for the icing, sprinkles and m&m's. It was cute but dd just ate the cupcake without any of the add-on's. They may do something else though for birthdays. I would suggest calling and asking.

Yes it was a yellow cupcake with whipped icing. It came with gummy worms, sprinkles, M&Ms.

We really enjoyed this place and the charcter interaction was great. I think they would make a big fuss but call and ask what they do for bdays.

I could not rememeber what toppings they brought so I called DS9 in here and he said he really like this meal!

We have done my daughter's birthday there twice.

The first time they brought out a small cake instead of the dessert. The second time they did put a candle in her cupcake...and we got the regular dessert.

The character interaction was great both times. The first time with the cake Mickey actually stuck his nose in the cake and let her stick her fingers in it....she turned one. The second time she was turning 3 and Mickey and Chip came with the cupcake and made a big deal about it. This was great because it was one of the busiest days of the year for them (dinner on Christmas Day) and both times they did a wonderful job of making her feel special.

You can call and order a cake in advance just call disney dinning -there is a charge I think in the 20's- or you can order one and pick it up but it will probably be the same price.

***When we were there, same thing, our 1st night for DS's birthday. They brought out a decorated small cake for him, characters made a big deal it was very cute adn MUCH appreciated we had a hard time getting there with storms on East coast! They also served us regular dessert that comes with the meal - way too much dessert, we were so surprised by the cake and thankful dont get me wrong. But would have just taken the cake and gave up the regular dessert....but I had to try them both since they were on the table, of course!

Thank you all that have answered me. It sounds like all of you have had great experiences at the the Garden Grill. Can't wait to be there!!!!!1:cool1:  :dance3:

We ate there the night before my birthday last year. We pre-ordered a vanilla Mickey cake (it was $12.50) which they brought out complete with candles (and Mickey came too!) but they also brought DS4 his cupcake to decorate since kids love to do that.
It was a lot of fun!
