Which restaurant would you pick for a special occasion celebration dinner? It is our anniversary and my son's birthday! We have a character breakfast and the trip to Carsland for my sons bday! It will be the 3 of us.

We have park hoppers and it will be on a thurs night. We don't need WOC FPs, we saw it in May after Ariel's grotto

I think it depends on what is more important to you. And whose bday! Your son should have main say. For ambience, BB can't be beat. But food there seems to be a divisive issue. Personally, I wasn't jumping up and down about the food -- it was okay but overpriced for what it was -- but loved the location. CCR seems to have a higher end menu and looks like the food is generally getting high marks. So just depends what you are looking for.

It is our anny on the Thursday and his bday DS6 on Saturday. We have character breakfast on sat morning and he wants to eat at Flo's so we plan to do that too but we looking for something for the Thurs night.

While I have not been to CCR yet, Blue Bayou is pretty darn special, in my opinion. It's a restaurant IN a ride! Kinda hard to beat that!

I still haven't made reservations for BB? We usually book at least one character meal and a special meal. I'm just wondering if BB is for us? My son is going to be 6 that day do it is a special meal! Is it that dark? Is it loud? I feel like BB is a more appropriate choice than CCR. We have taken him to signature restaurants in WDW and he is fine, but I think BB might be more appropriate for his bday?

BB is dark, but not pitch black. It's like eating outside at night. Yes, it can be loud, but so can any restaurant. Carthay can be loud, although not dark. :) As for food, I like both a lot. I'm not really much help because I'd have trouble choosing between the 2 as well.

ok heres what it boils down to...both BB and CC are comparable in price so what you have to decide is what is the most important thing to you:

A. the food

B. the ambiance

if you pick the food then I say CC....if you pick ambiance then I would go with BB...

Can anyone tell me how authentic the Cajun food is at BB? I've heard Ralph Brennan's is pretty close to NO style food. Curious about BB given the prices...

personally I think RB is as close to cajun as your gonna get in CA...and thats not saying much...however, it is ok...and as far as BB...I have to say that if you order the jambalaya...and you like it spicy..then you are good to go because they make some of the best jambalaya that Ive ever eaten and Ive had a lot...its way better than RBJK...

Thanks for the input. RB was on my definite list. BB was a maybe, but since I'm so far from home I may have to add it to the must dos!!

We loved Ralph Brennens food, probably more than BB and CCR.

Is your son into pirates? If so, eating in the ride could be really cool for him. I liked the food at CCR but it has a more mature feel so I probably wouldn't choose it for a kids celebration (and I brought my kids there).

I am from New Iberia, so I usually don't go for authentic cajun since we tend to be disappointed when we eat Cajun anywhere away from home. I'm going more for ambiance and a special unique dinner.

He is not really into pirates, we just wanted a special unique dinner. It is our 16th anniversary and his 6th birthday. He picked Flo's cafe for dinner and surf's up character breakfast for his special day. We went in May and he loved Goofy's Kitchen but we missed Carsland and that is where we will probably spend most of our time. We wanted to check out Grand Californian but Napa Rose seems to fancy for my 6yr old. I thought he could handle CCR but your comment makes me question that? He may tend to get bored and beg to hurry up and leave to go back to Carsland. We do not need WOC preferred seats because we saw it in May from Ariel's Grotto.

We are going for ambiance but at the price we want the food to be good. Unless there is another unique must do experience that we should go for, I guess we will go to BB? I'm not sure why I am just not sold?

I would definitely choose BB over CC with a 6 year-old. I was just at both a couple of weeks ago. CC is very nice for adults, but I think it would be nothing more than a boring restaurant for a kid. Much of the allure of it for me was the unique cocktails and how Disney recreated the original historical theater. It would be boring for a 6 year-old.

Make your reservations at BB, get there a little early, and ask to wait for a waterside table. Then buy him a drink with one of the little glowing pirates on it. Those are a lot of fun at BB since it's dark. BB would be much more fun than CC, IMO. I have a 8 year old and a 12 year old ... they both went to BB 4 years ago, when they were 4 and 8, and both remembered it and asked to go back this year.

BTW, just a heads-up that the menu at BB does not have any really traditional kid choices on it, such as chicken nuggets. One of my kids had the pasta and one had the steak. They both said it was good. I had the jambalaya but was not that impressed with it; I like spicy but I thought the shrimp was overcooked. DH had the special, which was some kind of grilled fish (don't recall what kind) with crab. It was seriously good! (This was actually the lunch menu; dinner may be different.)

Kind of off topic, but have you considered spreading these 3 special meals out over 2 days? You're going to get a lot of food at Goofy's, then a lot of food again at Flo's, then you're looking at spending a lot of $$ at BB when chances are you won't be all that hungry. Just a thought.

Thanks for your help! We will be in DLR on thurs-sun. We plan to eat at Flos's on Thursday night, MHP on Friday after a long day at KBF, where we will have their famous chicken, BB on Saturday night and we are having a character breakfast at PCH grill, Surf's Up on Sunday morning before we leave out late sun afternoon. We ate at Goofy's Kitchen on our last trip and my son loved it!

I thought the vibe at CCR is really cool, but probably not that exciting to a kid. My kids are younger but to them it was like any other nice restaurant. BB was fun, although not as fun as I had hoped because we didn't end up with a waterside table. But for a 6 yo I think its a pretty cool place to eat, especially if you do the ride and get him a glowing drink.

As for kid choices, pretty sure we had the mac and cheese there, there was definitely a kids menu. (Hard to remember since it seems like they had way too much mac and cheese last week. We are not that into "kid food") As for too many meals, I didn't find the portions at Flo's to be that huge. We did Goofy's for an early breakfast (7am), BB for lunch (11:30) and Flo's for dinner (6:30ish) all in one day and were not crazy stuffed. But there were no big snacks, except me finishing my Monte Cristo throughout the afternoon.
