CBS's NCIS Sydney thread. Do you like it so far or do you think it will be canceled quickly? 🤔🇺🇸🇦🇺⚓🌏

It was okay. Takes awhile to decide when a new show comes out.
I am waiting for the others to come back.

The original one in DC has run out of ideas for storylines and the original cast has turned over multiple times. Now it is more like watching a soap opera with people coming and going in various roles. The spinoffs in other cities seemed like the same thing with different characters and locales. Doubt this new one will be any different. Usually takes awhile to get a sense of how the lead characters interact with each other which is part of makes most shows interesting. I don't expect this new version to be much different.

I still like the original NCIS and I like the Hawaii version.
I liked the LA version.....did not care for the New Orleans one

I had never heard of it until last night. EVERY commercial break in the 90 minute long 60 Minutes last night had a promo for the show. That tells me two things, 1) CBS has a lot riding on this show. 2) CBS had a LOT of unsold commercial time.

I stopped watching NCIS once Cote de Pablo (Ziva) left, came back to see Michael Weatherly (Tony) leave. Came back briefly to see Katrina Law (enjoyed her in Spartacus and Arrow) but stayed away shortly thereafter.

Although I like Mark Harnon, the series really went downhill after Ziva left.

I was a fan of JAG but that too got bad after a few years...

I think it is one of the few shows that filmed during the writers strike and actors strike because of its location. Could just be they don't have anything else to advertise.

I wonder, was it supposed to be released in the US market or did it get released here because of the strikes?

I want to know how many horrible things are going to happen to that one nuclear sub that is based in Australia? Or are the NCIS agents going to soon be investigating cases that have nothing to do with the US Navy?

It wasn't on the CBS schedule, it was originally produced just for the Australia TV market. Also appears it was all shot before the SAG strike (in May), so everything was in the can before then so even if SAG actors are in it, it was all shot before the shutdown. Makes sense since CBS can just plug it into the schedule since it is ready to go.
But it is a example of one of the issues that came up in the writers strike. The entire season is just 8 episodes. Writers complain in their strike was getting hired on to write for a series used to mean working (and getting paid for) 20+ episodes. Now it can be a lot less work and pay.

Outside the US TV series are different. They are typically must shorter seasons and often are just a single season. No plan to do a season 2 no matter how successful season 1. The US is unique in the number of episodes and the expectations that shows should run for multiple seasons.

And I think SAG actors were allowed to work on shows filmed in other countries during the strike as long as the filming had always been in that country and was not moved from the US to try and circumvent the strike.

I didn't realize there's an Australian version, now! We ended up just sticking with the original one eventually, but might give this a go, I guess, if it's easily available over here at some point.

P.S. Season lengths are usually shorter here in the UK, but more (sometimes much more) than one season is very common, too.

That was one of the issues in the Writers strike in regards to shows being produced for Streaming or other pay channels. So shows with fewer episodes have arrived on our shores.
