Hi! and Help!

This trip is 10/31 to 11/5 and includes myself, DH and DS (9).

So we are going to WDW in 18 days and we are thinking of changing our resort. I have heard these people exist, but I never thought I'd become one! :duck:

We stayed at CBR our first trip and LOVED it. Even though we were in Jamaica in one of the furthest building, we didn't mind the walk at all. DH seems to think this is some sort of Disney Newlywed syndrome, and we didn't see the bad about the resort because it was our first trip!

So he wants to change resorts! We have looked at all of the mods and he has settled on POR. I like the thought of the boat to DTD. DS likes CBR, and I'm afraid he's inherited my resistance to change.

So does anyone have experience with this? Any positives and/or negatives to share about either resort? Other info to throw in? Free counseling for a Creature of Habit such as myself?

We've never stayed at POR, but we loved CBR (although, like you, CBR was our first onsite stay). With that said, we do have our favorites, but we also like to try different resorts. We always stay deluxe, but POR looks like a beautiful resort and and has alot of followers. I know the feeling of hesitation when considering a new resort, but we have yet to stay at a resort we didn't like. Good luck.

Lol... We are having the almost opposite problem. We stayed at pofq last time and loved it. I wanted to try CBR this time and my husband was not for it at all. He feels we found one that was wonderful why chance it. I kind of want to branch out and see what else is out there, But i see his point, I would hate the whole trip to be slightly disappointed because I loved POFQ so much. In the end we will probably stick with FQ due to the fact I always get what I want, this is a way for him to get his way while I am still happy:)

We have stayed at CBR 3 x's and LOVED each trip (Jamacia each time, in my book its one of the best standard rooms on property, very close to everything and first ones on/off bus stop). We are switching to POR for our next trip and we are really excited. We have always wanted to try POR but never been able to get a discount so we feel like we have hit the jackpot.
I can't tell you its AWSOME yet, but I hope if you choose POR you will come back and report what you thought.

We have stayed at CBR and POR. We had a rental car when at CBR and used the bus and boat at POR. We liked CBR better because it was closer to DTD and the Boardwalk where we ended up eating a lot of meals. But, POR is beautiful and huge! If you use the buses at POR, it would be best to catch the bus at the main bus stop as the buses do fill up quickly and then end up bypassing the other stops. If you do stay at POR and use the boat to get to DTD, use insect repellant in the evenings.

We stayed at Port Orleans and loved it. It is much smaller than the other resorts so getting around is easier and the grounds are beautiful. Good food options and you are right next to the French Quarter. If you go here try to get a Mansion room....the Bayou rooms are a little further from the lobby area. Peaceful is the word that comes to mind when I think POR.

I have an opposite problem from you...our goal is to stay at each resort at least once.....and I can't buy a Resort pin until I do!

We have stayed at both also. CBR in 1995(Honeymoon)and again August 2012 (with 5 boys). We stayed POR Alligator Bayou in 2005 (with 3 boys).

I remember in 1995 we were in Trinidad, the furthest one. But I don't remember feeling like omg, it takes forever to get to the food court. This time, we were in Jamaica, right over the bridge very close to food court and bus stop. Loved our rooms. We were there 10 days, We enjoyed the quiet pool alot, of course, not so quiet with us there :lmao: We hit the main pool 1 day, the boys loved the slides, the younger 2 also enjoyed the little kid area, it was awesome. But OMG that pool area is crazy crowded.

I know at POR, it had a main pool too, but honestly we never used it the entire 7 days we were there. We used the quiet pool which was very close to our room.

We loved both grounds, CBR has beach areas, I do not remember is POR had them, but I don't think so.

We did go to the main bus stop at POR after the first 2 days, because their buses we so full, by the time it hit our stop. So we would go to the food court, hop on the main bus. At CBR, our stop at Jamaica was first almost every single time, usually first on and first off.

I don't think you can go wrong with either resort. This post probably did not help. :rotfl:

I've stayed at CBR twice and POR 3 times, and headed back again to POR in January! :cool1:

I really like both resorts, but I like POR just a little bit better.
One reason is I like the food court a lot more at POR, and I also appreciated that in the AB section of POR most of your walking paths are shaded. When we stayed at CBR it seemed that the walk to the food court and back was always really hot and sunny. My daughter is sensitive to too much sun and heat so POR has worked out better for us, especially during the hot summer months.

We did enjoy the beaches and hammocks at CBR, but they lose a little of their appeal when you can't get in the water.

Good luck!

Make the switch. You never know unless you try and you may be missing out on something great because you dont want to make a change. We have stayed at POR and loved it . But that being said we are thinking of making the switch and trying CSR next time.
Good luck deciding...no matter what I am sure you will have a magical trip.pixiedust:

I've stayed at both and CBR was is my least favorite resort and POR is my favorite, so I'm sure you know where this post is going. What I didn't like about CBR was the layout, it was very awkward. Also, the food court wasn't all that great. The pool is very nice, one of the better of the moderates. POR to me is fantastic. The food court is superb, maybe the best onsite. The pool is good and it has the extra dimension of the boat to DTD. It's very tranquil and relaxing and has Yehaa Bob which your DS will love. I highly recommend POR!

I've stayed at both and CBR seemed so much larger than POR. Maybe it was just because it was so spread out. Seemed like we did a lot more walking to get to the food court and shops than we did at POR and neither room was close to the main hub. While I like the theming at CBR and all it has to offer I like POR better. I think that even if it doesn't turn out to be your favorite you will still enjoy the resort. Go ahead, take the chance.

We stayed at CBR once, and enjoyed it very much. We were in Jamaica too. But POR has become our fav moderate. It has a bit more to offer with queen beds, great food court, boat to DTD, fishing hole, horse & carriage rides, and evening entertainment in the lounge.

We love the mansion section, either Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House are great locations. We never had a problem with using the bus stops behind the mansions, with busses being too crowded. We prefer the bus depots behind the mansion to the very crowded main depot. But we go in value seasons so maybe that's why? Never had bug bites on the boat either :confused3. Guess everyone has different experiences.

Good luck with your change. I know what you mean. We are trying FQ for the first time in January and I worry if I'll like it as much as POR. But I'll be just a short walk away to my fav food court!! I plan on strolling over a night or 2 for my fav pasta bar at POR :goodvibes

We have stayed in both resorts several times and really like both of them. I usually request a building that is close to the food court area whatever resort we choose. I love the water taxi to downtown Disney that is available from POR but I do not like staying in the Alligator Bayou area - just seems like the bus stops are so far away from the rooms. At CBR I refuse to stay in Trinidad South - it seems like it is so far away that it should be another resort. Try out a new resort - I don't think that you will be sorry.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

We are now taking my niece along with us, so we are even more torn! She is 6, and would live the pool at CBR! But POR sounds great!

I would do a Royal room, but DS would go crazy! He is 9 ANC wayyyyy too cool for that girly stuff. (Except that he watches the Princess and the Frog rather intently. He loves jazz)

I will make a decision by tomorrow!
