Please forgive me if this has been covered before... I searched the FAQ's and many pages of old threads and could not seem to find the answer to my question.

We plan to use the room charge feature at the CBR and I know it is a 1000 max, then you must pay before additional charging is allowed. I see for the AllStars you are able to leave travelers checks at the front desk instead of a credit card. Is this feature also available at the CBR (travelers checks instead of a credit card)

We of course have a credit card however we have worked SO HARD over the past few years to pay off ALL our debt the thought of putting 1000 plus dollars on it literally makes me sick. We have already purchased our travelers checks for our entire 8 day stay and really, for our own piece of mind would rather use those.

I know it's silly... if we can buy the travelers checks why just not save that money to pay off the VISA.. mostly because we worked so hard to have our 0 visa balance and I never want to be in that position again. EVER.

I suppose if they dont allow us to use travelers checks for our room charge we will just carry our checks and use those for payments of our meals and such.. it would be much simplier to have the room charge feature though.

If they allow this I plan to give 1000 in checks right off the bat when we check in... if we spend that I will be more than happy to leave more as our vacation progesses.

I suppose I could call the resort but thought I would save a toll call and ask the guru's first.

Thanks :)

You could ask about giving them the cheques, but even if they want a credit card, you can still go back just before you hit the $1000 mark, and pay with the traveller's cheques. Until you max out or leave, the the credit card is just a guarantee.

Ciao,
Mort.

Thank you, Mortlives.

I was understanding the procedure all wrong. So bascially NOTHING will be charged until either my stay is complete or I reach the 1000.00 mark?

Great!

Perhaps every 3rd day or so I will just go to the desk and pay my bill with my travelers checks.

Certainly good info to have. Thanks again.

Your card wouldn't be charged until you got to the $1000 limit. We always make a point of going and getting a copy of the charges and reviewing to make sure they are correct.

The room charge is just added to your hotel bill. You guarantee with the credit card and then pay with the cc or you can pay cash/travelers check before checking out and they will not charge your card. (Within the limit). We like to hang on to our cash during the trip in case of emergencies or we need it and then pay our bill with it at the end. That's what we did before cc gave you cashback or points. Now we just put the money in the bank back home to pay our cc bill. They probably will take your traveler's check but that would be your spending limit.

I suggest that you set up the room charge in the way they describe, using your credit card.

Then every coupl'a nights go down to the front desk and use your travelers checks to make additional "deposits" towards your room bill.

On check out day there will be just a small amount left to pay.

Long ago when you had a credit card debt how much did you charge every month? Now that you paid it off, make a monthly household budget and feel free to use the credit cards for about a third of that. Then pay off the entire balance each time the credit card bill arrives and you won't have to pay finance charges. (When you have gotten up your confidence and discipline, you can charge more each month but don't exceed your budget.)

Thanks for the tips... we more than have a handle on our budget now and actually in the past two years have put ourself on a better financial track then people twice our age. The amount of time and research and planning that took was immense but worth it.

Our debt was not from foolish spending but mostly college/tuition related. Luckily in two years we were able to repay it all thanks to both of us having great jobs. Now, I am even self employed.

We do put all our montly expenses on a credit card (any bills we can pay, grocery, clothing, salon, entertainment and so on) however those are mostly "fixed". To me a vacation is only an option if you can pay for every cent upfront, before you walk out the door.

Thanks again for the info.
