I was just reading some posts and saw something about roaches in CBR! I am staying there soon, can anyone tell me about this? Should I try and get another hotel?

To be perfectly honest, I think you might find roaches in any hotel in Florida.
Bugs are just a part of life in Florida. I am sure Disney exterminates continually, but there is only so much you can do.

Everytime I have stayed at CBR....it has been the epitome of clean. If anyone saw a roach....it is because it got in from OUTSIDE. This could happen at any WDW resort.

We just returned from a 6-day stay in Martinique at CBR -- we had a GREAT stay there.... it was spotless, the Mousekeeping was great, and everyone was very friendly! We will definitely stay there again -- you will love it when you stay there!

Well I am glad we could calm you down, but now I am freaking out cause I just earned my ears on a post about roaches!!!!!!!! EWWWWWWW! :rotfl2:

Don't worry about the bugs. They're more afraid of you than you are of them. You should see the "cucarachas" in the Carribean Islands. They're three times the size of the ones you find in the USA and they fly. The first time I saw one I ran screaming out of the room.

I've seen huge flying roaches (at least they looked like roaches) at the parks and outside the resorts, but never in a room.

I think people forget that it's Florida and along with the hot and humid weather comes bugs, mold, mildew, snakes, etc. It's a perfect breeding ground for all of them and I think Disney does a fine job in keeping them all in check. I wouldn't worry about it and have a great trip. :cool1:

Don't take this wrong...we loved the CBR and I am sure you will love your stay. It's a very nice place and we enjoyed our trip.

However, it did seem to us that we saw a lot more "critters" there then elsewhere at WDW. We stayed at CBR when our oldest son was only 3 years old and we saw snakes, bugs, cockroaches, lots and lots of food stealing birds, etc.

Granted nothing inside the room, but quite a few outside. :)

There have been a lot of trip reports lately about CBR and no one has mentioned bugs. Also all over WDW you will find the birds that try to steal your food.

I don't even want to think of the chemicals used in the Orlando area to eradicate bugs. One of the wettest areas in the country. Ever wonder where the mosquitoes went?! :confused3 There SHOULD be birds, and bugs, and gekkos, and snakes, and mosquitoes, and gators, etc. I have never seen a mosquitoe there, it kind of creeps me out knowing they are gone (even though I hate em, I live at a wetland up here). Disney is almost sterile. How do the flowers even pollinate? I don't think I've even seen a bee. I wonder what the cancer rate in the area is?
Ya, I know weirdo posting here. Doin the dance though

The roaches you are referring to are most like Palmetto Bugs. They look like a big roach and they fly. While you see them a lot outside buildings in Florida, they don't come inside very often. If you leave the door open to your room, you will get bugs in your room. There are a lot of them down here. Keep your door closed and chances are you won't get them. I never had any problem with bugs at WDW resorts. I've lived in Florida for almost a year and have only once had a Palmetto Bug get inside my house. It came in on my back! Yuck!

Never a bug in any of my rooms, any resort........ :sunny:

My kids wanted to bring one of the gekkos from cbr home though ...
(Not happening.. :goodvibes )

We just stayed at CBR for a week in February and saw NO bugs in our room.

I would think that if you are worried about bugs, you may want to stay on the SECOND floor (although I think that Fantasia said her room was on the second floor when she saw the roach). It just seems like it would be more likely that a bug would get into your room on the first floor (closer to the ground).

Maybe it was just dumb luck that we saw more critters here than anywhere else. Come to think of it...we have rarely ever seen bugs or anything else at WDW outside of this one experience.

My wife and I were reminiscing about CBR last night after I mentioned this discussion. We both would definitely return again for a visit!

We were a long ways from the lobby and food area (it was a long walk across the lake), but one of my fondest memories was getting up at dawn and walking across the land bridge to get the morning coffee! It was extremely peaceful and I have not stayed anywhere at WDW since that had that nice feeling of "island solitude". It very much reminded me of a trip I took to the Cayman Islands a few years back. :cool1:

Enjoy your visit!

We stayed at CBR in 2002 and loved it! The room was very clean and no bugs at all. :flower:

However Florida has BUGS, you just can't aviod that. So you will see bugs outside everywhere including those flying roaches.
